800 (or even 1200...) GBP for computer with Pentium II class CPU? That is insane.
However, it is very nice setup with many good pieces of hardware - so price is fully acceptable for collectors. |

depends. if you're a collector or a retro-computing enthusiast, go for the A4000. if you're planning on using it on a near daily basis, go for the X1000.
if money was no object for me, i'd get an X1000. heck, i'd probably sign up for the beta program.
that's it, i want an X1000. just gotta figure out the whole price thing.
trevor, if you're listening, i don't think i'll have the cash for one, but how 'bout a kidney? barely used. or a leg? either one, take your pick.

Hopefully when the NatAmi comes out, there won't be a hard decision any more. A massively parallel FPGA architecture based on Classic designs and software would be very welcome on my desk. |

IF you are a retro computer collector or if classic Amiga is the butter in your bread go for the 4000.
With the X1000 you could possibly do some things in good speed and it could be your daily desktop computer one way or another...An expanded classic can still be a wonderful desktop computer and do some stuff but the speed is the friend of the Next Generation Amigas.
As far as the price... Ok the prices of some king od classic Amiga Hardware. This goes mostly for the accelerators and mainly to the expansion cards... This Amiga 4000 on ebay has lots of extras that could be sold on ebay separately for even higher prices. So at the end of the day this could be a good deal (for someone that wills to spend on a classic Amiga).
But I would prefer all this stuff on an original 4000T tower :D
@eliyahu
About the X1000 beta testing program I wish I could be a part of it but do not have the money....

| @eliyahu (more aimed at general amiga community)
All you people are making way too much fuss. $3000 or less for a system, 64 bit, duel core, with the expansion option allowing users 8 extra cores, 16 extra cores, etc, right upto 256 additional cpu cores.
THEN
My friend in the PC world here, bought himself a new system recently, for $5,500 for a complete system, and er, x86 is supposed to be common and CHEAP................
I rest my case.
Now stop whining and simply get one.
Cheers
@ Ebay seller,
1. hope your health gets better
2. I feel sorry for you needing to sell your pride and joy
3. Hope after and if your health became better you may consider coming back to the community, with a new gen amiga system.
Cheers and best of kindest regards and recovery. Last edited by Gebrochen on 08-Sep-2010 at 03:07 AM. Last edited by Gebrochen on 08-Sep-2010 at 03:02 AM.

simple really:
1- X1000 for practical modern day use and also majority of retro computing via glUAE or RunInUAE 2- A4000 for classic collectors for pure nostalgia
bottom line..can't go wrong with either but the best option would be to buy both _________________ ____________________________ c64-2sids, A1000, A1200T-060@50(finally working!),A4000-CSMKIII ! My Master Miggies- Amiga 1000 & AmigaOne X1000 ! mancave-ramblings X1000 I BELIEVE |

1. You might have a point if AmigaOS could use that many cores.
2. X86 gives you choice. Your friend decided to spend a ton of cash on a high end system, but if he wanted to he could have cheaped out and bought a perfectly usable web browsing box for $200. The X1000 only comes in one flavor: expensive. You could debate value for money, but there's no denying the lack of choice. I'm just glad we have those crazy Italians, otherwise the amiga would be doomed.

Don't forget that the AmigaOne X1000 wil become a collector's item as well. The first batch of 250 machines will be very rare in some months.
I wonder if Trevor will sell the Rev 1 boards for the real Amiga collectors as part of the Amiga history, or he will leave these boards to Hyperion.

That's true, and it's half the reason I bought my XE - the machine that brought the amiga back. Looking back, maybe it wasn't such a great investment

Man u suck! No-one can say it will be a collector's item 'within a few months'. Where's your confidence in the platform? Okay so it might not be the most affordable machine ever made, but Rome wasn't built in a day you know.
Have a little faith. Last edited by djrikki on 08-Sep-2010 at 08:09 AM. Last edited by djrikki on 08-Sep-2010 at 08:05 AM.

I'm very interested to find out what will be the price of an early AmigaOne X1000 compared to this A4000 in, say, 5 years. I guess we'll see... eventually. |

I said it will be rare in some months. It will become collectors item later. Don't change my words. The Amiga 4000T was rare in 1990ies. It is collectors item now.
I have faith in the platform. I remember that some months after I bought my microAmigaOne, that it was not available for purchase anymore. I wish the AmigaOne X1000 sells millions, but that would mean every active Amiga user now to buy 350 machines. Or 20% of the people who bought classic Amigas in the years 1985-1997 to buy AmigaOne X1000. Well we can always calculate, but better go to work now.
Edit: Look at the prices of 1chipMSX and you will see what I mean.
