@klx300r

Wicked, I hope Hyperion has the capital to purchase it and then things can really get moving in a clearer direction.

Anyone able to speculate at how much it is actually worth?

@klx300r

Gee Thanks

But not quite the same.

I wonder what price tag the IP can claim in 2010.. 5 figures, 6 figures, 7 maybe?

I wonder how much the Amiga brand is worth now a days?
I'm surprised CommodoreUSA didn't just buy it all with there claim $30 million budget, but then I'm guessing Bill McEwen wants more than that, didn't they at one point value the business at $86 million.

I just wish Aeon, Hyperion, Clonato or anyone who has put any effort in to the Amiga platform in the past bought it and used it to create something worthy of the name, and not just another business man who get the name to just make money out of it.

Sons of %$#@%$! They had to do this when I didn't have the funds.

They're putting a positive spin on it and I have a feeling they're looking in the $50M range. Though it's probably worth no more than $5M.

And the soap opera continues.

@andres

Now its time to do it. Sell all related Amiga patents and IPs to anyone
(imagine Amiga Toasters, but real ))) so Amiga.com become pointless.
And please make Snowmaker 2

Say what you want about Hyperion but it would be logical if the ones making the OS would own the brand Amiga. If anyone else bought it the confusion would just thicken.

Last time it was clearly sold they paid ~$10M.

So this time they might be willing to accept around this price range.

My impression is that Hyperion can't afford even the lower end of any possible sale price.

Sounds like the estate of Penti Kouri is liquidating assets.

Which judging by past actions would make McEwen and his gang very happy.

@andres

IMHO the Amiga brand with all the trademarks is worth $100K at most, and only to Hyperion as they're the only ones with an Amiga products. It's completely useless and therefore worthless to anyone else.

Amiga Inc. probably hopes to get $10M for it or $100M if you ask Bill McEwen but nobody is ever going to pay even $1M for it as there's absolutely no way to make that much in extra profits on any product just because it has the name "Amiga" on it.

Maybe if all the users who don't want to see the brand fall in the wrong hands (e.g. some industry completely unrelated to our computer) put their money together, it could add up to enough money to make a deal but then what would we do with it?

@Slick

I dont really see why Commodore USA would buy Amiga inc.

They are planning on riding with Commodore name, which is bigger than Amiga name.

I dont see Buying Amiga Inc. giving them any added value anymore, unless they just want to eliminate competition or save money in long run from licendr expenses, and thats real expensive way to save from them.

Of course i might be wrong, maybe they do have some good reason to buy it.

@Slick

I don't think so. Commodore USA supposedly obtained a license to use the brand Amiga but we don't know the exact terms, and for all we know they may have been scammed too.

This is new because what's for sale since today (Monday November 1st) is the brand, trademarks, IP, etc. and whoever would buy this would also become the licensor to C-USA.

I find it strange that within weeks of licensing the brand to C-USA everything is now up for sale. Maybe after the licensing deal AInc. realized that they weren't worth anything as they have nothing left to sell anymore, no OS, no name, no hardware, nothing.

It is not entirely true to Amiga Inc are for sale although it would be the most logical.

Only the transaction may have generated enough money to survive for Amiga Inc.
But Commodore says that the third and largest contract, and that the negotiations are ongoing.

Could it be a takeover of Amiga Inc.?
Someone who works at the Commodore had great insight into Amiga.com and knew when the site would be back. How could he know that? Maybe just because there is a takeover?

It will be exciting to see the results!

EDIT:
Strange that the notice is dated November.
Several new issues are created:
Can the deal between the Commodore and Amiga Inc has not gone through?
Could it be that you want to sell the rest of the IP?
Could it be a normal phenomenon in such a transaction to the advertised fixed it already sold?

Interesting..... becoming the licensor of CUSA has style....
but more than 120.000$ i would not pay. I calculated this and that and i see no cance to get quickly money back with this license. The only interesting stuff is the orginal Source of classic AmigaOS but also there i see not much "money" to gain.

Interesting.... really interesting...
I hope they make an auction..
Who bids one dollar? One dollar there! Who bids 2 dollar?

Ha why not making a Bounty!! Collect money buy Amiga Inc and relase everything as open source : D

@phoenixkonsole

bounty to go opensource would secure definitively amigaos future.
noone could hold hostage the os anymore like gateway and other did for years complete stand still .

that would be a tough one for hyperion though..
i wish there would be an easy way to ensure amigaos future and progress.
so far hyperion are the only that did good, for a very long time. they deserve our support too..
