New Year's Challenge to ALL Amiga enthusiasts!

We (everyone reading these forums) need more software, better software. That is a fact of life in this community.

Another fact is that there are not enough programmers still actively writing code for our community.

What can we do? We can continue like we have for the past many years and just complain about the lack of new software, or we can make a decision to do something different this year and do something to make a difference.

I am learning to program and improve my existing scripting skills. I am supporting software developers by donating free computers. I support existing software developers by buying new software when it is offered for sale. I actively promote Amiga computing and all of it's variants on the Internet when it is appropriate to do so. I am always looking for new ways to encourage new software development for all of the Amiga inspired systems.

My challenge to each and every one of you is to ask yourself what you can do to promote more software development on any and all of the Amiga inspired systems and then take action on your own conclusions of what can be done.

If you don't think you can learn to program yourself, maybe you can contribute in other ways. Many programmers are not the best at creating artwork for their software, where artwork is required. There are many ways to contribute toward more software development, besides just money donated to bounties (but that is obviously still a good way to show support). Get involved in some way. Find new software developers in the Linux community and convince them to take a look at porting some of their work to one or more of the Amiga inspired systems, or to write original software for an Amiga system. Think of a dozen or more ways to contribute that I have not thought of yet and tell everyone. Maybe they will use your idea when you are not able to do so.

This needs to be a community effort and it is one of the things the Amiga community is famous for in the past and present. We just need to make sure it continues to be part of the Amiga community into the future and that it grows, and does not fade or decline.

Please take up this challenge and let us know here in this thread what you are going to do to get more software written for all Amiga systems this year and in the years to come.

@amigadave
I spend all my free time coding for the Amiga and enjoying it. Many of us are.

@amigadave

Ok... Ok... so you've blown your own trumpet once again (feel better now, did it buy you some votes) !!!

Before you go calling this a "personal attack", it is not. I am simply asking you & stating the following in order to try and clarify just why you think you are so important to the Amiga Community that gives you the right to issue "challenges" and make posts demanding that others should be banned from forums...

Firstly it's not your place to "challenge" anyone, what makes you think you are so important to the Amiga Community and it's self appointed voice !!!

I've been using Amiga's quite happily for 26 years now on a daily basis and all without ever having heard of Amigadave or anything he has to say or has ever contributed towards my enjoyment of them....

You post on these sites basically demanding that others fall into line with your way of thinking and calling for others to be censored or banned if they dare show humour or if they don't fall into line with your way of thinking... Who on earth do you think you are !!!

There are already plenty of people still out their actively contributing towards the Amiga scene as the weekly Aminet update clearly shows, or do you think all that software just magically appears out of thin air...

While I get the point you are trying to make it's your pompous attitude that gets on my tits, you can ask questions of others but are in no position to "challenge" them. You don't have to tell us what you have done in order to ask the questions, you don't have to go around calling for people to be banned or censored because you are humourless or don't like what others say...

Thing is, your attitude stinks when it comes to making yourself out to be so self important in the Amiga Community and until that changes then you will just come over to most as a pompous ass and never achieve what your signature asks...

PS: Forgot to mention, In 2012 I will be contributing with coding towards a new software house that hopes to release some new games & hopefully utils for the Amiga, as well as continuing to code my own software which I sometimes release on Aminet or give away to others who may have a use for it...

I assure you I didn't, I'm fed up with Amigadave and his feelings of self importance to be perfectly honest...

@Franko

Replace the word "challenge" with "encourage" and you'll probably understand his post a bit better.

Do the same to your post too just for laughs.. haha.

@Skuggan

Great! I am very glad that there are many people out there like you. My challenge is to the rest of the Amiga community that only visit forum sites, or occasionally turn on any Amiga system, but then complain about the lack of progress and the sad state of not having modern software.

Thank you for your work and I hope that you will get others interested in doing the same thing, that they will get involved too.

Edit: After reading your post again, I think you need to code less and get out of the house, or apartment and spend time with people, friends, family. No one should spend all of their free time coding for the Amiga and enjoying using an Amiga. There is too much else in life. (or were you exaggerating in your post and you don't really spend all of your free time on the Amiga?)

I am really surprised that anyone could be offended by my SUGGESTION to do more (what ever that may be) to help the Amiga community, just so we could make this year the best yet for all Amiga users.

@Franko

My personal view you must not comment negatively on every thread. When you say amigadave has not contributed, what have you contributed to the community? We are in a democratic world and everyone has the right to have its own views (even if i think differently)

@Franko

Thanks for the laughs. I can't think of anyone on any forum site that is more "full of themselves" than yourself.

Please show me one single post where I have asked for anyone besides yourself to be banned.

The only quotes you will find are about you here, or on Amiga.org and were due to your constant bad behavior, which eventually led to you being banned for LIFE from there. Looks like I was right in asking for you to be banned from there, or at least many of the members and administrators there agreed with me.

I am not going to get into an argument with you here. I understand you are upset because you were not put onto the poll for possible AW.net's new moderators.

Edit: For anyone else who is offended by the word "Challenge", please insert the phrase "I invite you to challenge yourself into action"

Negative !!!

I have ignored countless post's by Amigadave both here and on Amiga.org asking for me to banned in the past and none of them were even directed at himself, so if you want negativity just read some Amigadave posts...

That's my point with Amigadave, he makes himself out to be someone important in Amigaland and gets away with calling for people to be banned because he doesn't like their humour or what they have to say and then tries to make out he's something special and an all round good guy which certain people fall for...

The democratic world and rights to your own views don't apply here as I have often been told by the moderators because this is a privately owned site...

Thing is, I've had enough of Amigadave and the crap he gets away with on these sites and it's time he either changes his attitude or buggers off if he's going to keep calling for people to be banned or censored just because he doesn't like what they have to say...

This is a quick reply so I haven't had time to look yet but you have called for many others to be banned not just me, don't worry I'll post the links soon if you can't be bothered to find them yourself...

If you seriously thought that I was ever going to be in the poll then you're deluded, not even I took that seriously for one second...

The thing with you is, you don't know me and I don't know you but just because you have decided over the past 20 or so months to forever call for me to be banned then with the possibility that you could soon become a mod here then it's time people got to see just how unfair & biased someone like you would be and unfit to hold such a position...

Don't tell me that's what people want as 18% of the votes is hardly a majority decision...

thread:
We should just ignore posts that lead again to the typical "bashing"...

To topic...
Everyone can do something, I f.e. buy software, donate money and work on a website that include all directions and on a grunch-db for 68k software (package-manager). And when i have finished this I want to start a class-library for AmigaE (PortablE) that makes it easier to port Application between f.e. 68k and Aros (and other systems when people are interested in). But that is only in planning-phase.

@Franko

You are going to have a very hard time with that task. You are special. You are the only person on any forum site that I can remember making so much disruption that I wrote a response that even implied that I wanted a person banned.

You are right about one thing though. You don't know me at all and your claims about me are completely false.

I would ask that you stop making false claims about me, and grow up.

...and people wonder wonder why I don't tend to post on forums. Look, AmigaDaves initial post was with the best of intent, the idea is sound, and the wording does not suggest arrogance in any way, at least to me - but perhaps thats due to the wording being filtered through my brain in Brummie English rather than Scots English... Though to be fair the translation from the linguacode of South California may also have introduced language anomolies that have further confused the tone and intent of the post but I doubt it.

Now - does anyone have any software they would like promoting ? Email me directly with any new releases so i can get them mentioned - and bear in mind I have a 2-3 week lead time! :D

Nah... no hurt feelings on my part...

Like all elections (the current moderator poll) it's time to take every opportunity to simply place some convenient truths into the public domain to try and influence & persuade others in the way they vote in order to see your choices elected...

In this case I certainly don't want to see Amigadave become a moderator as I believe he is unfit for such duties and the position would be better served by the other candidates...

Plus my New Years resolution is no more holding back on what I have to say and being Mr NiceGuy is a thing of the past...
