Quote:
An AmigaOS-inspired, modern OS, exclusively for ARM devices, including Raspberry Pi, with an emphasis on ensuring usability on small form factor and low power consumption devices, such as the Raspberry Pi and Beagleboard. Anubis is to be based on the Android kernel (not OS), which itself is a derivative of the standard Linux kernel, utilizing userland code from AROS where appropriate. The kernel is and will always be GPL, however userland will always remain AROS Public License 1.1 compatible. The kernel will be derived from the Linaro TinyAndroid Core Kernel |

Would be nice if it succeeded this time around._________________

Now it is only for ARM. (unless it one day runs on my cellphone, I doubt I ever use it ... well, times change and so does my mind)
UPDATE: summed up in short
"An AmigaOS-inspired, modern OS, exclusively for ARM devices, including Raspberry Pi, ... Anubis is to be based on the Android kernel (not OS) ... utilizing userland code from AROS where appropriate. ..."

I am owner of the RPi but I haven't yet boot it because I am not that into Linux. I bought it in the hope that someday AROS will find a place in that tiny SD :P Still my excitement is somewhat put back due to the history of Anubis (team). I hope someone from the current well known AROS distros could be placed responsible at this project or collaborate closer. _________________

| So it is not Android, it is not AROS, it is ARM only, it targets on hardware that will be overcrowded with different OSes in time Anubis can start working. That is what I call THE PLAN. |

| I've never heard the kernel in an Android phone called the "Android kernel". Even heavy Android developers wouldn't call it that. AFAIK all the non proprietary additions are rolled in and mainlined into the Linux kernel tree.
This means the differences are down to kernel configure options only. It's the same as calling the kernel in Ubuntu Linux the "Ubuntu kernel".
No real conclusions, just an observation. Except to say that they should adjust the project description accordingly or look like fools.

whats the point of spreading word about a "project" that has a failure the first time (and a very predictable failure, check my opinions about this from the time back then) and which gets "restarted" now when even less might be interested in it. im convinced you might get some sort of "anubis" maybe rather sooner than later, but rather i doubt it will be called that or have anything to do with "anubis team", if such a team exists apart of one person who loves to write down projects he would like to start. |

| (sarcastic mode ON) With all this positive reinforcement (sarcastic mode OFF), how can he fail?
Please restrict your comments in this thread to objective remarks aimed at the project, not the person reviving it. Just because someone fails or stops a project for personal or work related reasons and then wishes to restart it, there is no reason to crucify them, as is being depicted in the photo in the previous message in this thread.
I will remind all of you the personal attacks are not permitted on any of these forums. Last edited by amigadave on 26-Sep-2012 at 02:33 AM.

Actually my point was that the whole "bringing the amiga approach into the 21th century" is more or less like bringing a big wooden cross under the desert sun all the way to the top of a hill while roman soldiers whip you.
You know, it was originally the script for "The Passion 2".

| So, which'll come 1st? Belxjander's pretend projects (polymorph or whatever the heck he decided to call his con), or Anubis? :)
Both people have equally deserving reputations for delivering (ie, they dont do anything other than talk).
Personally I think we'll see a Vampire God named "Bubbles The Squishy" descend to Earth on a remote controlled strip of blu-tac before either come up with anything usable.
But hey, far be it for me to spoil anyone's delusions :)

Didn't you hear? Polymorph VM is a core functionality of the future Anubis-OS kernel. NG Amigas will run Windows, *nix, Mac, iOS, Android and Windows Phone software.
It's still unclear whether it'll be able to run Amiga software or not. |

So, to sum it all up, let's take an ARM Linux distro and skin it with an Amiga theme........no thanks. Would rather just run UAE or one of its variants. |

Yes, most of us know Android is using a Linux kernel.
But If I would try to setup AROS on an Android powered device, I would try to get the same Kernel with the same settings as used for the Android distribution running on this device. Maybe I would just bypass, stop (or delete) the Android specific parts running on this device.
Then I would still call it the "Android Kernel" because it was the kernel under Android.

| Topic Anubis restart:
I hope this Anubis restart is not bound to exotic programming languages like ObjC.
I hope it will be something more than a Linux hosted AROS would be, a new enhanced API and maybe Anubis could provide some nice ideas for touch-screen GUIs missing in current AmigaOId OSes .
