Hello Everyone!

I had a great time at AmiJAM this past weekend!

It was fun meeting everyone and chatting with Trevor Dickinson and Steven Solie (both very friendly and approachable people). I could certainly sense their love and passion for the Amiga computer and community. We had a blast reminiscing about how we first got interested in the Amiga and talked about our respective collections. Of course, Trevor's collection is VASTLY superior to mine. My collection is also a lot smaller now that I gave away a bunch of it at the meeting. I don't have room in my house to keep more than one of any particular Amiga model so there were some lucky people who walked away with free A500s, C= monitors, mice, joysticks, keyboards, external floppy drives, and other misc peripherals. I also gave away some C64 equipment.

People came and went throughout the day but, in total, there were about thirty people who showed up. Maybe that doesn't sound like a lot but, eh, this is Canada after all. There were at least a dozen systems set up for people to play with, not all Amiga. Some of the highlights were a CDTV, a signed A1200 from Petro Tyschtschenko, an MCC (MultipleClassicComputer), and of course an A1X1000 and AmigaOne500. There was even a MacMini with MorphOS for people to try out. Near the end of the meeting, Trevor gave a nice presentation on Amiga history and recent developments. I know someone took a video recording of Trevor's entire talk but I don't know if he's planning on posting it anywhere. I did take a few photos that can be seen here. I'd love to get a copy of the chart he had showing how the AmigaOS and variants have branched out over time.

The original prototype of the Cyrus motherboard was physically present however it has since been revised. There was a large photo on the wall showing the newest version with schematics. The new version of the board sports more expansion slots and has support for a wider range of processors. It's looking like there may be four different processor options (sorry, I didn't write down the model numbers and specs). There will be another Beta test program for this motherboard but they'll probably only select 50 people this time. Trevor's hoping to give out more details at AmiWest.

Trevor also spoke a little bit about the Netbook project. While this is officially a Hyperion project, A-EON considered funding the Netbook development but decided, based on the economics, that it was not commercially feasible. It was going to be based on the LimePC but, due to changes in the market, costs went up significantly. The cheapest the netbook would have sold for was $750 and it was way too underpowered for that price. However, they haven't given up on a portable solution and are looking at other possible options.

All in all, it was a lot of fun and was definitely worth the 3 hour drive down to Calgary. I hope to do it again in future years.

@Tomppeli

I've flown into Helsinki on a Baltic flying trip a couple of years back...but as of yet, have not attended any Amiga shows in this region.
