| @RobertB Nice Video.
In the video (20:20) Trevor speaks about the Libre office Port. I hope we can see it running at Amiwest.

There's too much background noise unfortunately. Couldn't get the most of what he said. _________________ Rock lobster bit me. My Workbench has always preferences. X1000 + AmigaOS4.1 FE "Anyone can build a fast CPU. The trick is to build a fast system." -Seymour Cray |

As Trevor is metioned with his full name most of the time, my first thought was "BRUCE????" |

Due to the echo in the room and long range mic, it is very difficult to understand Trevor's speech. However, I did hear that the X5000 will be available soon in the 5020 dual-core version but the 5040 quad-core boards are not manufactured yet, which is disappointing.

I had to resort to Windows but managed to get to a point where you can here most of what Trevor is saying. You do need to concentrate a bit more though.
I used Equalizer APO from Source Forge. I've provided my settings below. Just copy the text into an editor and save as a .txt file, it can be called whatever you like, and copy that into the config drawer of E APO. Then open the configuration editor and load it in. If someone has the time to save the audio output and clean it up it it would probably be probably be listenable to most people.

In essence, what did he say? |
The first ¼ to⅓ is mostly the intro you should be familiar with if you've seen any of his presentations.
Like raumfahre said, he mentions that the X5000 will be released soon. He talks about the A1222 and says that it will be low cost in "Amiga" terms while mentioning the NRE costs associated with low volume production. He said that if he could he would sell it at cost and make the money from software sales.
He talks a bit about Amistore and says so far it has over 900 users with most making at least one purchase and over 3000 individual purchases made so far. He says A-EON currently have 20 software developers and while they aren't paid at commercial rates is enough for the developers to feel rewarded for their work. He they plan to release OS3.x version of the software they develop for OS4.x.
He mentions that they are not stopping at X5000 and A1222 and I heard there was at least one development ongoing but it is not anywhere near ready to announce.
He talks about ALICE but what he says is covered in the press release they made and no info on availability and price.
He'd just talking about Libre Office now and says he's hoping to have it running on OS4 at Amiwest. |

| He also talk about the Prisma and why it taken so long. The was something about a race condition which occurred. I think he said they started a new driver from scratch rather than fix the first driver and the job well done and the developer has been fixated on getting it just right.
Now Q&A. If there's anything interesting I'll report it back.
I forgot to mention that he says work on Enhancer for OS 3.x is ongoing and the reason that it's taking longer is that they've had to develop their own classes and libraries to bring it in line with OS4. Last edited by Rob on 05-Oct-2016 at 10:35 PM.

I hear that a lot, but I don't understand... Already the 5020 is kind of a waste of resources that will never be used by an OS4 who would really make a better match with a "5010". And getting it for Linux is very strange as well, with its extremely poor price/performance/specs ratio that will be full of compromises and overpriced compared to the regular contemporary x64 options.
IMHO the idea of a 5040 should be scrapped completely, once and for all. The sooner the better. It will only drain AeonKit resources, and it will drain potential sales of the 5020 as well (which needs to happen ASAP IIRC), and it will not add anything positive to the OS4 eco system, so... |

Why does it matter to you how many cores the hardware ships with? |

I agree that if the 5040 version was canceled the demand for the 5020 version would be higher and bigger production runs could made. Would help to scale down the price. Which again helps to increase demand. If the price was lower I could imagine to get one myself to run MorphOS on something more powerful than my G4s while not needing a private nuclear power plant as needed for the G5s... Genesi showed more than a decade ago that with a bit more serios volume comparatively sane prices are an actual possibility. A Pegasos mainboard went for 450 EUR (G4) or 299 EUR (G3). And that made in Germany, not far east. That's the ranging rod.

Genesi/bPlan did a great job, even 12+ years later the G4 cpu is still better then anything, but the X1000. And not only had the Pegasos a more attractive price, it's cpu was more modern compared to the pc/Mac world then the X5000 wil have in 2016 (or 2017, as the launch of the X5000 was supposed to be in 2014)
1699 for a board with cpu which 2nd core is NOT used in OS4.1, and drivers that aren't fnished by the introduction, who is going to buy that ?

You like using that abbreviation, but let me assure you that your opinions are rarely humble.
Personally, I want a P5040 powered X5000, and have less interest in the X5020 model. As far as 'draining resources', the changes needed to the board to adapt to this cpu are minimal (although there are a few).
And what is will bring to SMP enabled OS' is clearly worth it.
If you had stated that you were going to buy an X5000 (as I already have), then your idea of limiting the prospects of the system might make more sense.
I've got an idea, if you want a system with intentionally limited hardware, wait for Tabor. _________________ Amiga! "Our appeal has become more selective" |

Thanks for putting the interview video out there good to hear about Libre Office. I really hope there is something shown at Amiwest.
Crazy how people at the venue kept interrupting Trevor to announce parking issues - must have been a small place with a small parking lot :)
