Hi,

I thought about the old time fellows of Commodore/Amiga Inc.
Do you know where in the world is Gary Peake? Is he fine?

bye

He's still alive and kicking, and is still posting to the Team Amiga mailing list.

You're welcome. Tho I don't know his current status with Amiga Inc (he isn't posting with his amiga.com email address) and don't think I'm gonna ask.

Gary is a great guy.

He is. I've known him since I started using the Fido network. After Fido kinda died I lost track of him, until I heard he started to work for Amiga Inc.

Glad to hear that. I came to meet him personally in Reading when we stayed at Tao's.

(if someone's subscribed to the Team Amiga mailing list, please give him my regards and tell him that I am still scared when I think about left-hand driving and roundabouts )

@elwood

I haven't heard much from Gary since the DE lists went 'ultra private' due to the spiteful stunts 'the other side' pulled on people on those ML's. Of course with hind sight and the DE court case it is clear why they were doing it.
He gave us a scare at this time with a heart attack - I can't help thinking that the stressful situation for Amiga Inc employees at the time couldn't have helped.

I'm glad to hear he is O.K. and still active - he did a really good job for developer support - I am surprised if KMOS didn't retain him - but not surprised if he backed off from the situation somewhat.

Me too -- drove my wife and my parents around in England for our summer vacation 2000. They all kept yelling "Look right" whenever we entered a roundabout. So imagine my horror when one of my colleagues today showed us this page. Don't worry, it's not a spider -- though I guess there are some similarities

Best regards,

Niels

P.S. Sorry for the OT

I drive past near there to get to the A419 to Cirencester from work (but I avoid it because I'm a chicken ####!).

Ah yes, the magic roundabout. Its great fun getting around that one :-/ Luckily I've only ever had to get about two roundabouts into or out of it.

Really must get me another car - I miss the independence, and mountain bikes aren't quite as good for things like driving up to scotland :o)

@nbache

Ah Swindons Magic roundabout.. I've driven round it many a time.. You should try it in a SEMI.

Swindon is not alone in having these roundabouts, There's a few of them in Uk.

Hemel Hempstead has one (loony london drivers too)
Colchester also has one.

When you know how to use them, it speeds the traffic flow up immensely.

When we where in Reading we had to drive a few miles each morning to get from the hotel to TAO, and Gary was the only one brave enough to drive the car. It was some... "experience"

@ all

Gary is consulting for a video rental chain and taking classes at a local college. He is still living up near Seattle in the city of Bellevue. He no longer works for Amiga. And though he does not dwell on the matter, has been heard stating disagreeable things concerning his previous employment. I think I can say that much without stepping on anyones toes.

@nbache

Do I win a prize for this?

I was driving a 4 ton truck through that roundabout when it had severe mechanical difficulties slap bang in the middle of the ring. The brakes slamed on and locked tight.
To add insult, I made sure I did this at 4:45pm on a friday. You can't imagine how popular I was with the other motorists

I wasn't much of a mechanic and the truck was a loaner, so I did a runner!

Legal Note: If anyone in the Swindon council or police are reading this. I don't know what you are talking about.. I was that guy over there. Quick, get him!

Well I think Dean should join ACK to create a wonderful new hardware.

Posted with permission from Gary, his reply;

Quote:

Tell everyone hello for me! I no longer work for KMOS/Amiga, whomever. Had
to actually ask to find out as no one specifically told me, but that is
cool. Lost a lot of dollars on the venture in pay not received, but met a
lot of really great people, renewed some old friendships, and want to
apologize to those who put their faith in us that we/I did not make it
happen for you. I was so sure in the beginning! Just the friendships I made
and renewed are worth every nickel I lost!

I am consulting for a huge video rental/sales corporation and loving it.
Turning stores around and showing stores in my area how to make money. Very
rewarding!

I am doing fine and so is the family. Glad to be away from the fray though!
:)

That roundabout made us all pretty good friends whom I value always! Place
your health in the hands of a crazy Louisiana Cajun, on a roundabout, in a
foreign country, who ALL drive on the wrong side of the road, and you better
be friends! :)

Good luck to everyone!

Gary
