@Mangaclub

If I remember correctly the 2.05 ROM was only released for A600. All other
models used 2.04. It was drivers for the PCMCIA that was added for that revision.

revision differences.

@Mangaclub

I think you should try and get hold of 2.04 ROM's instead and you'll find they work
alot better with your A2000.

Search for AmigaOS in Wikipedia and they also mention 2.05 as released for A600.

Not sure, if that applies to the A2000 Rev. 4, but Kickstart 2.05 (37.350) worked fine in my A500 Rev. 5a ten years ago. It even gives you a virtual PCMCIA slot!

@Mangaclub
Are you sure that the ROM is wired correctly? On my 2.05 ROM the extra wire (for the additional address line) goes from Pin 1 to Pin 31, but on your ROM it looks like it goes from Pin 21 to Pin 31. Is that correct?

ahyes i first jumpered it from 1 to 31 then i followed another description that told i shall jumper 1 to 31 on the mainboard and 31 to 21 on the kickstart so you see the last result.

The content of
http://www.oldsoftware.com/kickstart.html
is identical to my KS 3.1 install instructions - so you have tried the right alternative but failed (2.x and 3.x should behave identical in this respect)

Just to remove a couple of misunderstandings. A rev. 37.350 rom can be used without a problem in an a2000 and is not limited to being used in an a600. Furthermore a kickstart chip doesn't change pal/ntsc, that can be only be changed by replacing agnus iirc.

As for the ot problem, sorry, I can't help. If the wire patch doesn't work I'm out of ideas.

I think the jumper from pin 21 to pin 31 is for Kickstart 3.1 on all Amiga 2000 Rev. >= 3 (for this models you also have to connect pin 1 on the socket to pin 31 on the socket and bend up pin 31 of the ROM). Whereas the Amiga 2000 BSW only needs a connection from pin 1 to pin 31 on the 3.1 ROM.

Thus I think you should jumper pin 1 to pin 31 on your 2.05 ROM and not bend up pin 31 (resp. insert it in the socket), because I think pin 31 is connected to the additional address line needed on pin 1 (and you disconnect it, if you bend up pin 31).

Note that this comes without guarantee!

@Mangaclub
A few questions..
Did both ROMs give a red screen without any wire fixes? (or just the non-MX branded chip?)

With the Amiga powered off and ROM removed, does a multimeter show 0 ohms between pins 21 and 31 at the socket?

Are there any traces coming away from pin1?
If there are, does one go back to A18 at the CPU (should be pin 46)

If I remember correctly the 2.05 ROM was only released for A600.
Sounds right. The PCMCIA Type II and the internal 44-pin ATA interface on the A600 were controlled by the 'Gayle' custom chip. There's no Gayle chip on the A2000 ISTR. That might explain the 'RED' screen of Death! Wasn't there a special "Productivity mode" with the video gfx driver too?

There should be no problems; I remember feeling funny when my A500 was equipped with CC device in boot menu as I installed 2.05 ROM...

Yes both gave red screen without any fixes.

The multimeter shows 1400 Ohm , if ive read it right between those 2 pins.

So far i dont know what you mean by traces but there are no extra whires soldered at the back of the board coming from the kickstart. But there are some other red wires all over the board, maybe made by the manufactor.
Well i know this A2000 got 3 owners before me (yes bad thing to deliver all disks with private date to the next owner:) so i dont know what they did on it already beside a selfmade kickstart switch from 1.2 to 1.3 wich i dont use anymore.

anyhow i uploaded a photo of the back here:

Hmmm, I'd have expected the Macronix(MX) ROM not to work without any fixes.

The red screen is kinda good.. in the sense that it shows the ROM is working in 16 bit mode without any fixes. It just can't read the full ROM to calculate the correct checksum.

Thanks for that, I was able to trace out where A18 actually went on your A2000.. and it does go to Pin 31 on the Kickstart socket instead of pin 1.

http://www.doobreynet.co.uk/temp/AW_A2000ROM.jpg
(Yellow = traces on bottom side, Red= traces on top side)

So I'm puzzled, applying the fix(bend up pin 31 and wire it to pin 21 to put the ROM in '16 bit output mode' , then wire pin 1 to socket of pin 31 to reroute A18 to the correct input pin) you described should work.

The only thing I can think of is that pin 1 is connected to ground even though the schematics show it as 'not connected'
If that is the case, you could try bending pin 1 up out of the socket.
