Follow'up on the NEWS from 1.Feb 2007

Now all the modified hardware where comming together out of boxes and plasticbags and going into the prepared chassi. After ALL the wires where connected it was time to hit the "power" switch while Brian and I cross our fingers. We used 2 PSU's so we could feed the Raid controller and HDD's with its own and not having to wait for it to "bootup" everytime we reset the Amiga... so when the Raid controller was done we hit the A2K power switch and DANM!!! is work first time around... YEAARRH!

Installing software was a breize beginning with OS3.1 Install disks HDtoolBox which found a device called "RAID 8910-8" (there's the Raid controller Accusys ACS-8910), make a little partitions for installing OS3.1 and then OS3.9, hardware drivers, PPC software ect. etc... just success all the way.

Computer description:
- A2000/060-PPC/RAID5/NIC/SoundCard/USB/PicassoIV

Outside mods:
- Fan-controller display.
- Controll panel with Reset button and LED's for HD, NIC, Power
- USB ports
- Earphone connector with own volumeknob.

Inside:
- PSU airflow improved with wiremech and differnet fan
- All wires are tidied up
- Extra fans and heatprobes
- Drivebay modified aswell as one of the floppydrives to make room for PPC addon
- Motherboard ISA slots removed to make room for RAID controller
- Much much more but "you'll see"

Hardware Spec:
- Computer: A2000 - Motherboard Rev 6.1
- Accelerators: Blizzard 2060 (50Mhz)
- Accelerators: PPC Developer Board - (150Mhz)
- SCSI "ACS-8910" Controller: Running Raid5 with 8 2.5" IDE HDD's
- Memory: 2Mb Chip / 128Mb Fast
- Grafix: Picasso IV with Pablo II, Paloma IV
- NIC: XSurf
- Sound: Delfina Flipper (piggybacking on XSurf card)
- USB: Subway USB (piggybacking on XSurf card)
- Floppy Drives: 2 x HD Floppy drives
- CDROM: SCSI x16 (CD Changer for 5 disks)
- Cooling: 3xfans + controller with display

Testing:
Install and running OS3.9... CHECK
Install and running WarpOS... CHECK
Running PPC software (QuakePPC)... CHECK

Status:
96% Done.

NOTE: Big, big thanks to Brian my good friend, for great help and ideas.

Here is a overview, is just small items there is outstanding now..

Just to show "one" of the mod's I have to make...

To see all pictures in a XL-size HERE

Thanks, for looking..

Hey - great system & cool project! Looking forward to seeing some performance benchmarks.

I guess there is zero chance of getting a PPC card for an A2000 now. I was looking to expand my A2000 some more. My system is identical to yours except for the PPC card and RAID (2060/PIV/X-Surf/Delfina/Subway). Where do did you get the driver for the RAID?

I thing the performances, will be close to a cyberstorm 50Mhz/150Mz card

EDIT: screen pictures of the SysSpeed test can be found HERE

There is no drivers for the Raid controller, is show up in HDtoolBox which found a device called "RAID 8910-8" (there's the Raid controller).

@8bit.dk

So the raid controller is actually a SCSI device with IDE controllers that maps an IDE raid into one SCSI harddrive. Awesome. Wish I had SCSI in an Amiga

@TheDungeonDelver

AGA demos programs and games what else?

Not every thing supports a graphic card you know.

If they did have A1200 some where then I think it where way better to upgrade that,
then to hack an old A2000 or work whit the blizzard PPC?

I guess the motivation behind this is to see if this works nothing else.
