Hello,

- Could you describe here the model of the ADSL modem you use for internet
with your amiga and can be used with success with an amiga browser, for managing the ADMIN-PAGES for the ADSL modem you use (after login/password for the modem) ???

I would like to see other amiga users add useful informations here on the
following list, for helping the choice for a new amiga user, for internet.

-Alcatel SpeedTouch 5x6 = OK (100% with IBrowse).
-Alcatel SpeedTouch 530 = OK (100% with IBrowse).
-BEWAN ADSL600 = OK (Ibrowse)(90%:Opening ports page not work).

-BELKIN F5D7630 = OK (IBrowse) (minor problems with port forwarding config)
-BILLION BiPAC 7300GA = OK (IBrowse) (firmware upgrade might not work)
-BILLION 5200G 802.11g Wireless Router, Interface: 4 ethernet, WiFi 802.11g
Microsoft Support: 98SE, ME, 2000, XP- Mac Support: Ethernet
Max D/L Speed: 8 Mbit* - Max U/L Speed: 1 Mbit
Console Compatibility: PSP, Playstation 2, XBOX

-It is COMPLETELY Amiga friendly, everything works with IBrowse.

-DLINK DI 604 = NO
-DLINK DL 604 = OK ( AWEB 3.5.09)
-DLINK DI 804 = OK (OS4/IBrowse).
-DLINK DSL G604T wireless router = OK (with programs like Miami, MiamiDX & Genesis and all internet programs: AmiRSS, AmiPod, IRC, Browser & email). (worked fine with a wireless PCMCIA card).

-LINKSYS BEFSX41 (4 port Cable/DSL Router, 1.4x Firmware) = OK (IBrowse)
-LINKSYS WTR100 wireless router = Mostly NO (Page display:rendering errors, require javascript).
-LINKSYS WET54G (WLAN Ethernet Bridge) = Mostly NO (Page display:rendering errors, requires javascript).
-LINKSYS WRT54GC (WLAN Router) = Mostly NO (Page display:rendering errors, requires javascript).

-NETGEAR DG824M0 = OK (Ibrowse)(strange colours due its use of CSS unsupported by IB).
-NETGEAR DG834 = OK (Ibrowse).
-NETGEAR DG834G= OK (Ibrowse).
-NETGEAR DG834GT= OK (Ibrowse). works everything BUT the firmware upgrade option (broken pipe error).
-NETGEAR DG834GT= NO (Aweb). some options gadgets are not working. It skips totally the autentication/login step and then reads some "random" settings (not the current/actual one)
-NETGEAR DG834GB= OK (Ibrowse). works everything BUT the firmware upgrade option (it is possible to paste the URL over to AWeb to do the upgrade, CAUTION: no progressbar in AWEB)

-NETGEAR RP614v3 = OK.

-OLITEC SX200 = OK (Ibrowse).
-OLITEC SX202 = OK (Ibrowse).

-Efficient Networks SpeedStream 5200 = OK (Ibrowse)
-Netopia 3366 = (telnet such as MiamiTelnet)

-Westell Wirespeed 2100 (DSL Modem, Bellsouth Firmware) = OK (IBrowse)

-USRobotics 9112 (DSL2+ Modem) = OK (IBrowse)

-sphairon ADSL Turbolink AR800 = OK (Ibrowse- Last Aweb - Last Voyager)

-Trendnet TW100-S4W1CA (4 port broadband router) = NO (Javascript, pages don't load)

Thanks for your answer. Try to have a small database for modem who could
be used easily with amiga browsers. In case you want to change your modem
because new speed available on your home, for example, this maybe big
database will be usefull .

@Mrodfr

I'm currently traveling away from home at the moment but will send you a list of the ASDL modems I have used with my home network which includes PC's, Mac's, Classic & A1's.

To be honest all of the modems I have used (three so far) have worked OK. The Broadband download speed has varied from 1Mbps to the latest 8Mbps (although the actual broadband download speed is probably 5-6 Mbps).

@Mrodfr

Modems and browsers have nothing to do with each other. (It's not the browser that has to be compatible with the modem, but most likely the network software of your OS.)
A modem (physically) establish a connection with the network. Most modern ADSL modems usually have DHCP settings by default. So if your ISP is sending you your IP and DNS by DHCP, all you have to do is plug the cables, switch on (and add your loggon and password if not already done), and you are ready to go. If not, you'll probably have to change the settings of your modem (or your network software) to do, for example, PPPoE. Once you are connected to Internet, your browser can talk to the Net.

I used to have a Alcatel SpeedTouch, now I'm using a "Scarlet Box" (ADSL modem + VOIP phone line). The modem was config to add my username and password when installed; then I no more had to touch the settings. (I also have a WiFi router behind the modem. Both the router and modem are doing DHCP.) On my Amiga (wired to the router), all I had to do was to give the gateway IP (the IP of the router), and leave other settings to dynamic.

Hope this help.
(I don't see a reason why some ADSL modem could be incompatible with an Amiga.)

@TrevorDick

I think the point of the original poster, is to document whether there are problems using the web configuration pages of the routers/modems, due to limitations of Amiga browsers.

@AmigaPhil

ADSL modems who can be configured with an amiga browser (mean no need to have a PC for the modem settings).

example: netgear modems DG series work fine with Ibrowse 2.4 but not Dlink models apparently.

I will add some reports I allready have on a french forum after job.

Strange, they must have changed the interface, my previous router was a DI-804, which worked fine with OS4/IBrowse.

@Mrodfr

Using an Alcatel SpeedTouch 5x6 here. This one is FULLY controlable from IBrowse.

DSL + 4 RJ45 port router. Two ports are connected up to two switches: a 5-port and an 8-port. The 5-port is connected to two LaserJets, an old x86 (Ubuntu) thing and my (t)rusty A1200. The other one is populated with this very Micro and my son's x86 computer. On the other two ports hang one computer each: one for my wife and one for my daughter. We seldom speak to each other .

@Mrodfr

Hi, DLINK DL604 router works with OS4.0 AWEB 3.5.09

Webserver can be slow to deliver the page, so AWEB jumps in with its cached version, which can be confusing!
Patience and page reloads are required.

regards, Richard.

edit: added detail.

@all

I have updated the first thread with new informations. Please continue if you can.

Pease explain well because when works I understand nearly 100% work mean you have opened most/all settings pages and do some change on the settings on your modem and all work fine with amiga browsers.

if you have best of the best ADSL modem, please also explain (example even update firmware work with amiga brwosers).

@ZeroG

there are some problem with AWeb 3.5.09 and Netgear 834GT.

i.e i have to type the whole URL and not simply the IP address

http://192.168.x.x/start.htm

and then some options gadgets are not working (checking some AWeb configurations now...)

Edit- avoid Aweb with this router.

It skips totally the autentication/login step and then reads some "random" settings (not the current/actual one)

Yes, my DG843GB has the same problems with AWeb, it is not possible to configure it with AWeb. I can configure everything with IB but it was not possible to upgrade the Firmeware with IB, the file wasn't send to the Router.

Then I started AWeb and entered the URL where IB failed while the upgrade, and it was possible to upload the file. The progressbar didn't work, so I waited until the leds of the router stops flashing (+ 10 minutes, to be on the safe side) and did a reset.

Maybe I should try if the Router works with OWB.
