OK, all Minimig v1.1 owners prepare to weep like children! Our resident genius Yaqube has just posted a demonstration of Hardfile support on the Minimig v1.1 with his ARM extentension board.

Follow this link to see his post and then click on his link to go to uTube and watch the 6 minute demonstration of his machine booting into what looks like Workbench 3.0/1, running Sysinfo and then playing several hard drive installed games:

http://www.minimig.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=11&p=153#p153

You might also note that this Minimig has the following:

68000 @ 25MHz (should help with those flight sims)
1.5MB Slow RAM
2.0MB Chip RAM
4 x Floppy drives (df0, df1, df2 and df3)
1 x 512MB Hardfile showing as a FFS SCSI drive

Brilliant work! This really is a complete expanded A500 replacement suitable for most people.

Elsewhere on the site is a close-up of the RAM modification. Apparently the new RAM chips are "piggybacked" onto the original chips and a few wires and a modified core takes care of the rest.

The net result is that WHDLoad will work so you have the potential of hard drive installing a lot of those ADF images.

@everyone

Now the Minimig boots into Workbench
You can install WHLoad and have up to 4 floppy disk drives
68000 @ 25MHz !
1.5MB Slow RAM
2.0MB Chip RAM
4 x Floppy drives (df0, df1, df2 and df3)
1 x 512MB Hardfile showing as a FFS SCSI drive

This is just great! I can't wait to put my hands on this firmware!

For anyone who is going to buy a Minimig now please remember that if you want a case for it, I have only got 20 left of the second batch (arriving in the middle of January).

email: amigarulez@hotmail.com

Thank you

@TheDaddy

Remember that this is a teaser so that he could show us what he has achieved so far. There may be some bugs, there may be some optimisations he wants to make and there might be even more features he wants to add. Remember that Jaqube was also talking about using that USB port to remove the need for a null-moden cable for updating the firmware.

Also, we don't know whether he wants to make some cash producing these himself (or even has the spare time) or whether someone like Acube will be willing to do a production run.

I think the update through the USB port idea has been dropped. Jakub is concentrating on updating through SD Car.

Producing what? The ARM add-on?

Update via SD card would be just as good. Anything that would get rid of the need for another computer is a bonus, especially if someone intends to market this one day as a games console to non-computer users.

Yes, I meant the ARM controller.

I love mine. I've also bought a C-One, but it arrived at my house a few hours before I had to leave for Brazil so I haven't had a chance to play with that yet.

@Metalheart

No, there are 2 modifications to this Minimig:

ARM Controller: An expansion board that replaces the PIC and allows more space for Yaqube to work his magic. This is what allows him to implement the 4 floppies and the hardfile support (plus whatever else he plans). This is a simple case of remove PIC and insert ARM conroller into the empty socket.

RAM Expansion: 2 extra RAM chips soldered on top of the original RAM chips with two wires from the chips to the spare pins next to them.

One thing though.... will your case be compatible with this new hardware device once available though?

Yaqube has already stated that the ARM contrller will fit inside the existing "Daddy" case.

@Everblue

As Darrin says, Jakub confirmed that the ARM controller is slim enough to fit in place of the PIC.

I can't wait to play with the hardfile

Cheers, but all I've done is report the news. Send the flowers and the box of chocolates to Yaqube.

I have to admit that we needed some good news before Xmas.

@Darrin

If we can manage to get OS3.X installed on the Minimig, with WHLoad we are sorted

Then if the ARM controller becomes available, even better

@TheDaddy

You will need the ARM controller and the RAM to be available first in order to use WHDload.
