| #EDIT:# Plans have changed: See page 3.
Through discussions with Twizzle in PMs, things have changed a bit.
Twizzle has very kindly agreed to send his Apollo '040 to Amigakit BEFORE I buy it from him.
My plan...
Phase 1: Get Twizzle to send his Apollo to Amigakit; complete!
Phase 2: Amigakit test the Apollo with their A1200s and confirm it is fine; complete
Phase 3: I send my hardware salvaged from my dead A1200 to Amigakit: Hard drive, CD ROM drive and Zip Drive, linked together by Eyetech's EZ-IDE 4-device buffered interface; complete!
Phase 4: Amigakit examine my salvaged hardware to see if it is still working; complete
Phase 5: Makers of the Blizzard and Cyberstorm PPC cards, bankrupt nine years ago complete, or rather finished!
Phase 6: I get Amigakit to build a new A1200 around Twizzle's Apollo and my hardware, if it survived. After my disaster, I don't trust my own installation and computer-building skills. May need advice here on AW.net with this step, as with what to buy complete!
Phase 7: When Amigakit have built my new A1200 and confirmed the Apollo and other hardware work in it just fine and dandy, I pay Amigakit and Twizzle in full
Phase 8: Amigakit send me my new A1200, and I continue making Amiga-generated animations happily ever after. Last edited by RoqueFort on 27-Jan-2010 at 01:08 PM. Sounds like a plan, hope it works out! I suppose it enables you to have peace of mind on the matter.

On the other hand, we pay AmigaKit to condemn your hardware to save us the torture of having to look at any more of your animations :P
Hmmm...pancakes!

Think so... it was definitely 2000 AD that Amiga Format closed, and Phase 5 went under before then. Think it was the same year, otherwise it's more than nine years!

yeah its a bummer aint it, means many Classic hardware orientated people may actually end up buying New hardware and in turn, actually do the community a good thing, by supporting Acube and Hyperion.
BUT
I can see where your coming from, as it has always crossed my mind that if I could, I would, for fun, also have a a1200 on steriods with PPC board, and show off to my friends before showing them my new hardware.
DREAMS are nice.
mmmmmmmmmmm, wonder if through my cd32, and the sx1 expansion, weather it were possible to attach a PPC type card to that, if another company decided to make something supportive for a1200 and a4000 owners, who are wanting PPC cards to run os4 classic.

That's great, I hope you are up and running soon. Too often we forget how important good Amiga dealers are in keeping the community going.

I can't afford to wait for new hardware. Of course, since no-one knows when it will actually arrive, it's possible it may do so before my plan comes about. With all Twizzle's trust and kindness though, I owe it to him at least to go ahead.
As for supporting Hyperion... think there's some debate as to whether that would actually be a good thing.

I remember the SX-1... a little problematic, but as the only way of expanding the CD32 (except the FMV module,) one could hardly criticise it at the time.
I bought the SX-32 Mk2 about 12 years ago. As a boy, it was all I could afford by saving my pocket, birthday and Christmas money. It only had 8MB RAM, but that was just enough to produce some of my early cartoons._________________ SEX SUX

Thx for your kind words, if Phase 8 comes about I'll make sure I properly show my appreciation for everyone's help.
I don't know how long it will take, I'm good at making plans; keeping to them is another matter. Think I'm slightly better than Gateway and other owners of Amiga Inc..
As the plan runs, I'll update the progress here, or if anything changes. ATM the ball is in Amigakit's court; gotta give them time to do their job. Haven't heard anything yet; hope they don't have trouble reaching me again._________________ SEX SUX

| LATER...
Phase 2 complete: Amigakit have confirmed Twizzle's Apollo is fine and dandy. Not that I ever suspected otherwise.
Now it's my move: send my salvaged hardware to Amigakit and pray that it has survived. : _________________ SEX SUX

Several people would like to know how this turns out; as they've mentioned several times.
AW.net is one of the few places where such a dilemma is understood; most other people don't even know what an Amiga is; and those who do try to use my misfortune to draw me away from the Amiga scene for good: Anti-Amiga stick and PC propaganda?
Once I reach phase 6, I'll also need help rebuilding the A1200. I already have some ideas of what I want, but as we all know, the A1200 is a pain to upgrade, so I may have overlooked some things.
All this sharing of experience, help and advice is one of the best things about being an Amigan! _________________ SEX SUX

I may do something similar in the future... simply send my 1200 bits to Amiga Kit... see if anything can be salvaged... add to the system if necessary, and then get them to ship it back working... sounds like a plan... could be expensive though :(
Currently I don't know if my 060 works or not. It did a few years back, but haven't had a working Amiga since then to test it on. When I plug in the power cord into the Ami, it stays dead... no led lights nothing...

Might not be that expensive; Amigakit are kind- they seem not to charge for examination and installation of hardware; only repairs. Since nothing could be repaired with my dead A1200, I haven't been charged anything yet.
I've already paid the expensive prices- literally. I destroyed my A1200 mobo which I've had for 11 years, back when they cost some £200, along with the Blizzard '060, which would have been at least £150 plus its 64MB SIMM, about £100 or more, and the brand new Indivision, £108.
Well, I reckon I might not have to spend too much re-building my A1200, as computers generally are a lot less expensive than they used to be. It could cost me as little as £600 including a TFT monitor. I remember back when a CRT monitor on its own could cost over £600!

| Just been confirmed, my hardware has arrived at Amigakit, so I can relax a little.
Amigakit's move now: test the HD, Zip Drive, CD Drive and buffered interface to see if they survived. All I can do now is hope... _________________ SEX SUX

Back when there were Amiga Shows in Columbus and St Louis I talked to a couple developers about that. The problem according to them was the CD32 expansion port is upside down and backwards from the 1200's

| UPDATE... Phase 4 complete.
I guess Phase 5 is also complete, or rather FINISHED...
Mostly good news... My HD, CD drive and zip drive survived; Amigakit reckon they were saved by the EZ-IDE 4-device buffered interface, which has been damaged, but at least I know that can be replaced.
I was hoping at least either the HD or the zip drive had survived, as if the HD was destroyed, I still have my most precious files on zip disk, but if the zip drive had also been destroyed, replacing it would be difficult- they seem hard to come by, just like the accelerator.
So now, Phase 6: I set about re-building the miggy, for which I may need help from members of AW.net. I already have some idea of what I'd like to add, I'll let you know. _________________ SEX SUX
