hi!

Does anyone know, can we expect 040/060 Minimigs
in the near future? Or will it stay on 68000?

@eXec

The Minimig is an open hardware project and could be extended to every 68k CPU.
If you are talking about the Minimig board from ACube ... well a lot of Minimig improvements would need a redisign and ACube has not announced any improvements.

Have you heard of Natami? www.natami.net/. If they pull it off, it'll take the classic Amiga beyond anything we've seen before.

Not to rain on their parade, but they did promis a summer release. Last year.

But having said that, I do hope that the Natami will materalize into a new computer

True about the last year release date but, to their credit, the prices of the FPGAs have been becoming much more favorable recently. I think the new production model NatAmi being designed will stand a good chance of capturing market share in the Amiga sector.

OS 4 is nice but OS 3 is where the software is. Maybe if PUAE gets ported to the OS 4 then it will compete for more market share again.

No, the Natami Team "promised" a summer release in 2008, but then changed the goals and aims of the project to something much grander. A very wise decision imo, considering the results they are showing.

@eXec

At the Event in Essen/Germany
they displayed "MiniMig AGA".

The guys (Jakub & Sascha( boing4000))
called it "MiniMig AGA". Actually it was
a Replay - Board designed by MikeJ.
In its powerful FPGA it had the 68000 and 68020
CPU Core. The AGA Chipset was integrated
too. But it was not 100% finished.

Main Problem was that the System run
to fast for the Games etc. The programmer
has a little bit of work to do.

In 68000 Mode it had 77MHz,
in 68020 Mode it ran 40MHz.

Now the coolest info:

It was possible to add up to 50MB
Chipram to the System on the fly.

Sascha demonstrated it. He than opened a
huge 3000x2000 Picture of the Earth in Chipram.

Very Very cool !!! No real Amiga can do this.

Than the Next cool Info:

They are working on an expansionboard.
This Board you connect to the "MiniMig AGA"
and it has the last Rev. 68060 (J Mask), a Deneb
compatible USB Part, 64MB 0 Waitstate RAM and
Network Interface integrated.

Next cool Thing:
The FPGA is a quarter filled. So plenty of
room left. The want to integrate a CyberGraphics 4
compatible Gfx-Card based on a Cirrius Logic Chip
into FPGA.

@zErec

You told exactly why I prefere the minimig over the Natami, Minimg is available (in an early stage) but Minimig is open. Natami is still under development ...

There is just a dissappointing detail about Minimig ( that might be influence the Natami too ) there is not much interest in it.

It would easy to support Minimig development with bounties, some Amiga dealers could finance a development of a new board and a Minimig with 68040 (LC/EC) faster AGA and SVGA Hicolor might be possible for under 300¤ but there seems no demand to do it.

I think it has been made pretty clear that they had some set backs which will lead to delays.

Wow!

Sounds very promising.
Is this the same board the FPGA Arcade uses?

There is a very neat 1GHZ x86 computer by Nortec(h)? ,that show how new fpga and other chip can take the place of old power-hungry chips yet give more performance cheaply.

And India plans an under $100 pad computer for their nation.

@Arko

High end minimig must compete with SAM ,and just how many can afford and want such machines in today's economies?

If I had the money to spare ,this would be typed using my SAM 440 800MHZ until the SAM 460 ships;instead it is coming to you from a $20 flea-market Dell,hooked up to similar -priced LCD .

I'd still like to see AmigaOS 4 for the efika (which has way more power than any original Amiga even with add-on cards!).MorphOS is great ,it's just not OFFICIAL Amiga OS.

Ummm.. no... there's no fpga there. They use an Xcore86 SOC. And since you mentioned it, that very neat computer you're talking about is actually the Commodore Amigo. It'll likely be aimed at kids with the Comodo OS. It should be decent for people who want to get on the web inexpensively and plugs into any TV.
