(Solved) Help needed with Amiga 2000 and Kickstart 2.05

Greetings everyone

I have a little problem:
I planed to build up my old A2000 - Rev 4 made in BSW (Braunschweig)
this one: http://www.amiga-resistance.info/download_photos/a2000mb_rev40.jpg

When i plugged in the Kickstart (ofcourse in the right way) It gave a Red Screen.
So i ordered a second one, with the same result. That made me todo some research and i pointed out 3 different statements in the net how to modify a Kickstart to make it run.
One says, no modification is needed for Rev 4. Ok so i don't belive that anymore and found another one who told me i shall make a jumper between Pin 1 and 31 of the kickstart. So i soldered a whire to those two. The result was that the amiga began to puke hundrets of fragmented colors at the screen and started to abuse the disk drives.

Then i tryd the other description wich told i shall make a jumper from pin 1 to 31 on the motherboards kickstart pins on the backside, bend up pin 31 on the kickstart and make a jumper from there to pin 21. Did that too then with the same result as before. So now i am out of ideas. Someone got a idea?

--

Solve:

One rom was bought as defective. As i didnt dare to solder on the other rom i made a non solder sollution between pin 1 and 31 and it worked out. Moral: never buy used kickstart rom :)

@Mangaclub

Was it in any way working before you started to switch parts?

I've owned 2 A2000s.

The first one was an old B2000 (OCS with 0.5MB on the mobo and 0.5MB on a Zorro RAM card). It came with KS1.2 and it was upgraded to KS1.3 and KS2.0.

My current one is an ECS model which I upgraded to KS3.1.

In both cases it was simply a case of remove old chips and insert new ones.

Are you sure you're using A2000 ROMs?

@Mangaclub

Okay, the good thing is: The Amiga worked fine before you started.

Switching back to the original ROM does make it work again? Have you un-plugged ALL other devices (HD-Controllers, memorycards, floppydrives...)? This is to rule out as many variables as possible.

Red screen does indeed indicate a problem with the ROM, are the contacts of the ROM and the ROM-connector on the motherboard clean? No bend contacts?

As I recall there were several versions of Kickstart ROMs for different Amiga models. The ROMs for the A2000 were different from the ones for the A1200 I believe and possibly the A500. I don't know if the form factor/pin configuration for the different ROMS were the same or not. But I guess I'm wondering if you really have a ROM designed for the A2000. Hope this helps.

@Ned

According to the site of Vesaila the ROMS are the same for A500, A600 and A2000. That is how I remember it also.

@Mangaclub
What are the wires on the pictures for? I point towards the ones connected to the ROM.

Ah okay. Stupid other question, do you have the possibility to test the new ROMS on another Amiga like an A500 or another A2000?

@Mangaclub

True. It's just to rule out as many possible fail causes as possible. From experience I know that it is extremely difficult to track an error with many devices connected and without knowing the history of the parts.

Just out of curiousity, why Kick2 and not Kick3?

@Mangaclub

Have you had a look at this document about jumpers for the A2000 Rev 4? Maybe experimenting with those helps.

@Amiga_3k

thanks but there are sadly no such jumpers onthe board. Only jupers i could see now are for the leds and one jumper called J36 soldered together, wich is , i suppose for the second floppy device to work.

Now it is time for one of the pros to step into this story I'm afraid.

Ah... That must have something to do with PAL and NTSC. From your user-info I could not figure out what to expect, PAL or NTSC. Said that, if I remember correctly with Kickstart 2 and newer it should be possible to choose between PAL and NTSC in the early-startup.

Is it a PAL or an NTSC machine?
