I wouldnty mind getting a Spider, but arent there problems with registering Poseidon with a Spider/Mediator??
(AFAIR the author of Poseidon has said he wont take any more registrations of software from mediator users due to past issues with Elbox). _________________ Live Long and keep Amigaing!

Amigakit have just tested a Spider in an A1200 and confirmed that it works.
Chris Hodges was kind enough to release Poseidon v4.4 to the community and it is avalable for free download from his website. It no longer needs to be activated.
The previous problem with teh Spider was that it would only work with older Poseidon stacks that required registration. This new driver works with the freely available 4.4 stack, so no registration required. _________________ AmigaOne X1000, A4000(T), A3000, A2000, A1200(T), A1200, A500, CD32, Minimig+ARM, FPGA Arcade, Chameleon64, C-One, C128, C128D, C64C, C64, VIC-20, CBM 8032, CBM4032, Efika, Ultimate64 |

Thanks Darrin.
Thats good news.
But at the moment I am up in the air about what to do with my Amiga systems. I wou;ld love a Sam460 and to downgrade my current 1200 set-up to seperate out RTG and ECS/AGA games, but its alot of money.
The perfect option would be for the Sam to be able to emulate AGA games at decdent speed, but as far as I am aware with E-UAE lacking JIT, speed isnt that great with many AGA games.

I know what you mean. We have so many options available now (Minimig, SAM, etc) and more coming (FPGA Arcade, Natami, X1000, etc) that it is hard to decide what to get.
I have a Deneb, but they're no longer available and once you're used to a classic Amiga having USB then it is hard to use one seriously without it. I'm going to take the Deneb out of my A4000, replace it with a Spider and put it the Deneb into my A2000. _________________ AmigaOne X1000, A4000(T), A3000, A2000, A1200(T), A1200, A500, CD32, Minimig+ARM, FPGA Arcade, Chameleon64, C-One, C128, C128D, C64C, C64, VIC-20, CBM 8032, CBM4032, Efika, Ultimate64 |

Is there full USB2 support under OS3.9? Works it under OS4.1 Classic? _________________ Amiga600/Vampire2/PrismaMegaMix |

Yep. They'd blow the RDB away if you used them with a different piece of h/w. And it was on purpose, too. _________________ The problem with AmigaOS on PPC isn't that PPC is big-endian. The problem with AmigaOS on PPC is that PPC is dead-endian. |

You must place it in the USBHardware drawer within the DEVS drawer of your Workbench
Path is:
SYS:Devs/USBHardware/Spider.device

Well that's what my friend said he did and it made no difference so I don't know what else to advise him.
Unless he didn't reinstall the USB stack. |

The instructions come in the full lha Elbox sends to his customers. He should create a SpiderBuf env file with 1,2,3,4...33 value, depending on Voodoo/Radeon graphics memory he wants to configure for that. If he sets SpiderBuf to 33 he should set VoodooMem to 13 IIRC _________________ The only spanish amiga news web page/club: CUAZ |

Okay thanks. That's a lot more complicated than dropping a file in place!
Sounds like they should have provided an installer to set it up, not instructions. People use installers, programers use instructions! |

Checked the system. Driver was placed ion DEVS:DOSDrivers! LOL. Also found another in DEVS:. And finally killed them and put it in the proper place. As I thought, didn't work.
What's strange is that before in Trident it came up as green with the old driver but with the new one is was all red! |

you also have some key you have to put in L: IIRC. And check our the values of the env settings. _________________ The only spanish amiga news web page/club: CUAZ |

So even the free USB stack needs a key? I;ve sen no ENV var and none was listed on the orginal Spider drive CD so I don't know what's going on and where that comes from. In the MM_UP archive only a USB device is included.
Like I was saying. Why can't they just put the new USB driver is a bloody installer package!?

Have you set the env vars in the right directory? you should set these values in: SYS:Prefs/Env-Archive/Mediator/ It won't work without SpiderBuf and VoodooMem/RadeonMem set to the right values. _________________ The only spanish amiga news web page/club: CUAZ |

There's no point me trying to set those vars. Because I don't know know what they contain! If they are needed why doesn't Elbox tell you and if so why don't they include a script to generate them!
This is just ridiculous. They release this driver which relies on vars a previous version didn't have and expect you to know about it already!? That's bogus man. Where is the read me for the new driver?
The links are out of date as well. There is no Poseidon on their Aminet link and the registration page tells you to get lost! Need I say more.
I can see the end result of this is that you need the Elbox archive and the driver must be put on their site for posterity. Last edited by Hypex on 16-Sep-2011 at 11:58 PM.
