I would like to get a 3d scan of some old computers including some Amiga models (like A500, A1200, A3000 and A4000). It's easy and free.

Autodesk has made a program for this (it's free but it's Windows) called 123D Catch. All you need to do is set your computer out somwhere that you can walk around it and take pictures. Take 30 to 50 pictures while walking around the machine from low to overhead angles and send them to this service. You'll get back a 3d version of your images (it's pretty amazing actually) in about 30 minutes. Save it as an .obj and lets share them (you can open them in Blender!) We're using it here at work and I thought it would be really cool to see some old Amigas in 3d. I might even be able to slip your Amiga into our new game.

For the photos, we've found that lighting is really important. Outside is best.. but not in direct sunlight. A bright, overcast day is perfect. Also, turn off any sort of "auto" exposure or focus on your cameras. A point and shoot works fine but make sure everything is manual and you have enough light.

If you need help with the 3d software, the first part of this tutorial explains a bit about getting from 123D Catch to Blender.

Thanks in advance!

I forgot to mention that you'll also have a couple of images (the object's textures). Maybe we could zip the .obj and images together to share (it might also have a .mtl file so put that in there also).

We might be able to share the link that comes from 123D Catch. I haven't tried this...
