mkay. I'll give you that one if you were shooting for internet use, like your post, NOT being a computing need. Heh.

I KNEW that would be the typical reply to this...
In case you have missed the posts where I have explained this before allow me to explain it for one last final time...
edit by mod: Don't be snarky.
Firstly to answer your comment directly...
You DON"T Need a computer to post on the internet these days I am assured it can be done from mobile phones...
More importantly and this is FACT...
Using REAL Commodore Amigas DOES NOT REQUIRE THE INTERNET...
The Internet has never been a necessity to use REAL Commodore Amiga Hardware (heck the Web wasn't even around when the Amiga was introduced)...
REAL Commodore Amigaa never have and never will require the internet to be usuable, the internet is nothing more than a communication medium and NOT part of or something required to use REAL Commodore Amiga hardware...
Nothing hard to understand in the FACTS I have just posted...
So the typical reply you just posted is pointless, wrong and absurd (not to mention a failed attempt at having a dig at me and this subject)...
Don't know why folk keep coming up with this silly "internet" argument on this subject when It's a FACT that the internet has nothing to do with computing or more importantly computing using REAL Commodore Amiga hardware... I suppose NG is excluded if I judge from your first post. You should also define what an everyday use is and what are the needs that you fulfill. Of course this is subjective but you could narrow down a little bit and expect more specific answers. Gaming is one use but maybe you also intend word processing, printing etc. _________________ Vanilla A500 NOS A1200 (Powered by V1200, CoffinOS r.58) PowerMac beast, MorphOS 3.15 (registered) |

| I've been using an Amiga since I bought an A2000 back in '86 or '87 and I still do. My main "Commodore" Amiga is my A4000 which also allows me access to the Internet via iBrowse (although to be honest, I do most of my Internet stuff on my PC or X1000). _________________ AmigaOne X1000, A4000(T), A3000, A2000, A1200(T), A1200, A500, CD32, Minimig+ARM, FPGA Arcade, Chameleon64, C-One, C128, C128D, C64C, C64, VIC-20, CBM 8032, CBM4032, Efika, Ultimate64 |

Yup NG, MorphOS, WinUAE etc... has nothing to do with this thread (that's why I tried to make it clear it's only about REAL Commodore Amiga hardware
For me personally It's about using the Amiga for computing task like D.T.P., Creating GFX, Audio Editing, Burning CD's & DVD's, Making Music, Word Processing, Letter Writing, Programming etc...
I know playing games is a big thing for a lot of Amiga users and even if that's all you use it for and do so all the time then I suppose that counts too... (just cos I aint a big games fan doesn't mean to say that it's not using your Amiga)...
Basically I am just curious to see how many other folk are still out their whom never left the Amiga scene and went to different platforms to preform their evertday computing tasks/ needs... _________________

It must've been 87 as that's the year the A2000 was released... _________________

I use my Classic 'miggy for tasks that are still better handled by it e.g animation, bitmap manipulation and for the odd spot of retro gaming. AmigaWriter has long since been retired as my word processor of choice however and Word and Pages get the most use in that regard in this household. AmigaWriter has pitiful handling of tables for example. iMovie and iDVD are awesome programs on the Mac which have replaced my genlock, Scala and my trusty VHS recorder for the titling of home videos. So no there are some things better handled on other platforms although the Amiga still has its place.
Oh yeah and to say internet browsing is not a computing need is simply bonkers. 80% of the entire time my wife uses a computer for is social networking with the other 20% split between Word and Audacity.
Fans of the Amiga don't have to use it for 100% of their computer tasks in order to favour its ease of use, OS and its unique and productive creative programs! My wife even used TurboPrint to print a project she started in Word because it could better handle multi-page poster printing! Is she an Amiga user? Technically yes, but to force her to only use an Amiga in 2013 when people DO need the internet on their computers to check rotas/bank accounts and see how their friends are doing is just not feasible.Last edited by Darrin on 07-May-2013 at 11:41 PM. Nope... It's just too slow and too limited for my requirements. Still use a couple of them occasionally as an mp3 player, for the odd game, and for testing code written on a more "modern" machine. _________________ RobTheNerd.com | InstallerGen | SMBMounter | Atoms-X |

I mainly used my A1200 until 2005. Since then I did most of my school-work on 486SX notebook.
Sure, PC of my brother is the best for browsing internet and wasting my time in senseless discussions... |

Me... Sort of, 1985 to 2007 on real commodore amiga hardware - although I do have a couple of 1200's somewhere, 2004 onwards using NG but I do have a harddrive from 1994 (from my A4000) in my X1000 and stil use a lot of the programs on it. I also have a couple of macs but I've not even turned them on for about 6 months, I use AmigaOS for everything I can. _________________ OS4 Rocks X1000 beta tester, Sam440 Flex (733)

You're going to get very little response from anyone if you limit the scope of your thread to a small proportion of Amiga users who use nothing else!
edit by mod: Don't be rude... again!.
Other than PageStream which I've always loved for DTP, if you want to print documents 99% of the time you'd be better off using M$ Word. Sorry that you'd prefer to know about how I've made do with 2nd rate outmoded software since the mid-90s but I haven't. Times have moved on and in many respects the Amiga was left behind. Other platforms are required to take the slack. Sorry you don't want to hear that. Last edited by Darrin on 07-May-2013 at 11:42 PM.

| I can't use an Amiga for all my computing needs as it doesn't have what I need.. but I've been using my Amigas since 1989.
Basically I use a PC when I need to use a computer, and an Amiga when I want to use one.
By Amiga I include classic and OS4 though. |

If it makes you feel better I used my classic 'miggy and genlock to title my sister-in-laws wedding video as recently as 2009 and recorded the result on a consumer electronics DVD burner. They were very pleased with it. So the Classic Amiga has its uses. _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." John Lasseter, Co-Founder of Pixar Animation Studios |

Fer Gawds sake BigD... THAT'S THE ENITRE POINT OF THIS THREAD...
The Title and my very first post in it makes it VERY CLEAR that this thread is aimed directly at people whom have only ever used and still do up to this very day and moment in time use REAL Commodore Amiga Computers for all their everyday computing tasks....
There is nothing hard to understand in that and so far of the 3 people whom have said they do (including myself) then it doesn't matter if there is only 3 of us or their are more to come...
This thread is as I have said just me trying to find out roughly how many people still do use their REAL Commodore Amigas each and everyday instead of using Macs for example...
edit by mod: And that means you too!.Last edited by Darrin on 07-May-2013 at 11:43 PM. Last edited by Darrin on 07-May-2013 at 11:43 PM.

| @ EVERYONE WHO IS OFF TOPIC...
AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH....
Did any of you actually bother to read my first post ???
I made it perfectly clear I believe in that post that this thread is about
PEOPLE WHOM STILL TO THIS DAY AND VERY MOMENT ONLY USE REAL COMMODORE AMIGA COMPUTERS FOR ALL THEIR EVERYDAY COMPUTING TASKS...
Nothing hard to understand in that...
It's not about the internet...
It's not about what other platforms you use now...
it's not about if you used an original Amiga up until xyz date...
It's about a perfectly clear and well highlighted set of questions that are clear even to a blind man and his dug to see...
Gawd, did IQ's suddenly drop round here or have some folk lost the ability to read and understand simple questions anymore...
