Hi fellows: Iam looking for help on setting up my new slimline CDRom Drive.

I have it hooked up to my IDE interface. I need to set it as Slave.

I have Amiga 1200 Flash Drive set as Master.

I check the Slim line cdrom it doesn't have a jumper to set it as slave.

I am hoping there is a way to set it up! Thanx in Advance Mikey

@Mikey

I have a 3.5 inch hd and a regular CD Rom both running off the A1200 did port so it is possible if your hardware is compatible.

The Atapi.device needs to be installed for a CD Rom to be detected on the ide port. I used the idefix from aminet for it, along with the included file system. If you search online you will find the publicly released key from power computing for idefix.

@Mikey

It is not that easy :(

I tested 5 different models and only one worked with my Amiga. Good new is that prety much every laptop if they are old enough has a possible CD-rom drive.

What you need to do is connect it your PC and check is a slave or master. Some drives can also flashed to slave/master.

You might need to set your HD to slave.

@Mikey

So if you do a scan with HDToolbox it won't show up?

What OS? With OS3.9 the patched scsi.device can detect a CD drive.

@Mikey, all

It's not as simple as the OS here unfortunately - if there are two masters on a single, chances are no amount of software patches will get it to work.

What you could do though is set the CF card to slave. If the CD-ROM drive supports a slave that should work - Amigas can boot from any drive with a bootable partition, not just the master.

There's still a chance however that the CD-ROM drive does not support a slave, in which case the only chance you might have is to try and fit a 4-way IDE interface in there and but it on the secondary interface...

When you say slimline do you mean laptop cdrw with an IDE convertor on the back ?
If so it might not have a jumper to set it to slave. It might have a solder points that you might need to bridge or unbridge to change it to something other that what it was set to in the factory.

If your running 3.9 mounter will show up any cdrw's that are attached on scsi.device

You will need a dosdriver (CD0) in Devs:Dosdrivers with the mountlist set to scsi.device unit 1.

If your running 3.0 or 3.1 install IDEfix from Aminet and it will scan atapi.device part way through the installation.

Either way more information is required to help troubleshoot.

@JurassicC

Mikey back again! It Has 3.1 Rom plus Workbench 3.1 as far my system. I also have apollo Acclerator running 40MHZ, FPU plus 32Meg Ram.

I bought the Slim tyoe CDRom for my 1200 from Vesalia. it was suppose to be made for A1200 or 600.

I got some good ideas maybe a new interface . Also I have bought the Power Flyer Enhanced IDE Oontroller for the Amiga 1200! which i haven't installed it looks really pretty techie for me.

I was wondering anybody have any feedback on it!

Thanx again for the good advice Mikey
