Have you followed this Project?

Quake played top of WarpOS and Sonnet PPC.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBiGvfH7q0k

Elbox announced Shark year 2000, it would have bee rebranded Sonnet Crescendo, PPC accelerator for 680x0 apple Computers.

Now somebody has hacked it to work with Mediator.

Currently there is two of them on sale on ebay, price is something like 11€.

That would be cheapest PPC accelerator fo classic Amigas. :)

Interesting. So it was a viable project after all. I wonder why Elbox never followed through. I'd certainly have stuck one in my A4000+Mediator. Mind you, I have the X1000 now, but if the price was right...

Just buy a card schematics and can you produce new ones. G3 and G4 processors on the market from damaged Mac is plenty.

@utri007

Could you provide the eBay-link? I see 2, but they don't have the memorystick slots.

3 dimm slots:

http://www.amibay.com/showthread.php?52687-SONNET-Crescendo-7200-G3-400

Hedeon uses a 500mhz, he talks about 3x 16MB on the card in the link you gave here.

Graphics card memory is necessary for the boot of PPC CPU. Otherwise, Sonnet on-board memory is both used and necessary at this point.

Also, to anyone searching for the card. You need 7200 model. Nothing else will work. Read the README.md file in GitHub repository before you spend any money:

Freescale are still selling 7448 CPUs ranging from 600Mhz-1700mhz and IDT are stll selling the TSI 108 and TSI 110 bridge chips. I'm sure a lot of people would be happy if someone designed a new card based around those with a couple of GB ram soldered on board.

The ones on ebay look like NuBus connectors (not the rarer PCI ones). The PCI ones are probably mostly installed in old performa 7200's right now. There are a few other sources too.

I wish the development library wasn't so tied to Elbox pci.library. These would be great for Amithlon machines that have extra PCI slots if the support for amithlon pci libraries were there.

the more interesting of this project is if it open the posibility of a open source WarpOS compatible library that can run on any powerpc pci card and any pci solultion. Imagine for example using a powercell pcie as accelerator for Warpos apps on Amiga x1000/x5000 WarpOs apps runing faster than native ones

I was thinking in PCI embedded development powerpc cards and SBC powepc cards. there are a few ones than can be used also as a slave systems. I do not know if it's technically possible to do something similar to what have been made to the crescendo 7200 but is something to consider

Why? It's a COMPUTE card, not general purpose one. For anything it can accelerate you have already a faster accelerator in NG amigas. They just need drivers for that purpose.

PowerXcell hit's bit under 110gflops while your normal R9 280X will hit 3482 gflops. Second problem is that you will have really hard time on finding one of those cards and prices will be quite high. On other hand you will need GFX card on your machine and you can get new one for under $200.

TL;DR It isn't worth of it to work on abandoned cards. Xcell < gpGPU.

@Fransexy

Those are dead technologies.
I was in contact with IBM throughout those projects.
What most people don't understand about IBM is they prefer to qualify their partners.
What do that mean?
Unless its a licensed product, they may not want to sell it to YOU.
They may work with a large company (in this case primarily Sony).
But they actually want to know what YOU can bring THEM.

Its the weirdest organization I have ever tried to work with.
Doubt me?
Go try to buy new Cell BE or PowerCell 8i cpus.
They WON'T sell them to you .
