| Hi,
I recently purchased Individual Computer's 55 MHz ACA-1233, so why not add an 68882 FPU also clocked @ 55Mhz? With soldering iron in hand and a 55 MHz oscillator ordered from ebay, I quickly voided my warranty... what is life without risks? This may be the fastest 68030 accelerator for the Amiga 1200.
Follow the link to see my mod plus some SysInfo stats...

(I updated the link, hopefully it works this time)

Would be curious to know how it compares to the Blizzard 1230 IV Turbo Board which is 50MHz & has 50MHz 68882 FPU & MMU also. _________________ - BCP AmigaOne X1000 & Amiga 4000

I have one of those also, I believe it scores roughly around 9.60 Mips for the CPU and 1.40 MFLOPS for the FPU.

How is the stability with the added 68882? One of your pictures of the card has Jens warning of instability.
Thanks for sharing!

It runs fine. The warning recommends to disable burst mode. I don't enable Data Burst since it doesn't improve performance by much.
I have also added an FPU to the 40 Mhz version of the ACA-1233. It too runs fine.

So I guess this means the benchmark tests you conducted were done with without data burst on.
Cool!

Does the FPU need to be matched to the CPU clock or is it completely independent and matched to it's own crystal?
Thanks! Bill "tekmage" Borsari |

I love it when the soldering irons come out for our miggies
Can you please run a test with SysSpeed as I find it to be more accurate _________________ ____________________________ c64-2sids, A1000, A1200T-060@50(finally working!),A4000-CSMKIII ! My Master Miggies- Amiga 1000 & AmigaOne X1000 ! mancave-ramblings X1000 I BELIEVE |

Sure. Once I get home in a few weeks. The joys of working out of country. I will run the test on my Phase 5 Blizzard 030 MK IV to compare it to the ACA-1233 @ 55Mhz.

Amazing result, well done.
I echo that, it is great to see soldering irons being used to make ones miggie do interesting things...

Sorry for the delay, to answer your question the FPU is clocked to the speed of the crystal you add. Thus you can have a mismatched CPU and FPU clock if you like, though I have never tried this.

According to some developers the FPU could have its own clock ... but unlike it is told in the documentation it will not be stable. |

The FPU uses it's own oscillator. I try to match the oscillator to the speed of the CPU. In this case the FPU is slightly overclocked since it is a 50 Mhz FPU, I clocked it at 55 MHz with with a 55 MHz oscillator I bought off ebay. The 50 MHz FPU I used is slightly overclocked but runs fine.
The doc does mention possible instability by adding an FPU and if you do experinece this turn off Burst modes. I never had any issue either way..

Here is some AIBB Benchmarks.
Indivision ACA 1233 @ 55 MHz (with FPU @ 55 MHz) vs Phase5 Blizzard 68030 MK-IV @ 50 MHz (with FPU @ 50 MHz).
Using the Blizzard 68030 MK-IV with FPU as the base - 1.00 - Stock A1200 with No FastRam in brackets().

Very nice results. _________________ This weeks pet peeve: Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). Sometimes I don't even know what people mean. |
