I assume for you then Aladdin just works fine and without jit ? Because from what i test and from what i heard from another , JIT don't make much differences with Aladdin.

Can you please confirm that for you Aladdin without JIT works jerky and sound jerky, but with JIT are not ?

Quote:

Brian the Lion AGA works here without slow downs or audio skips either!

And Brian The Lion works fine without JIT too, and more of it : that one of the games which do not use JIT at all even if it enabled, because game itself disable caches at startup and as result disable JIT (check by leds and output in console, you will see that after some loading caches disables, and JIT leds do not blinks anymore).

@kas1e

Didn't know that about Brian, but both Aladdin and Banshee needed frameskip=1 to run without audio skips before, that's why they were the very first I tried once the beta was out. I may make a vid later today if I find some spare time to showcase the difference.

@vulture

I guess you're using a really poor resolution.

With My G4, I'm using these settings to achieve a nioce experience :

gfx_width_windowed=720
gfx_height_windowed=568
gfx_lores=false
gfx_linemode=scanlines
gfx_correct_aspect=no
gfx_center_horizontal=smart
gfx_center_vertical=smart

I had to create such a resolution but it gives me a really nice emulation with my 16/9 display.

@K-L

Guys it is simple Scaling = more cpu needed for scale the resolution...
Scanline = one line skipped less cpu needed
if you use 320x256 native you will have the best emulation for speed and native resolution
if you use 640x512 with scanlines and doubled you will have the same result of 320x256 without scanline

the worst result is gaven by a 640x512 without scanline and double (adapted) this because the cpu power will be needed for make the scaling...

The strange thing is ... thanks to jit we will need less cpu power for emulation and with double resolution 640x512 the emulation have to go the same like 320x256 without jit.

I assume the emulation is slow down for many factor ..,
One can be the video driver
Second can be a better optimization of the emulator
Tird can be the how the multitasking on os4 work...

about the tird point = i see the system become much slower and less reponsive compared with AmigaOs 3,5 with Warpos and 604e 150 running WarpUae...

watch this image and do the same with your Ng

Edit: Corrected image size

@K-L

You mean, you can run Aladdin without frameskip on old EUAE without any audio stuttering just by using the settings you've mentioned?

I'm using a 16-bit full screen mode of 320x256 without scan lines and all ocs/ecs games work flawessly, but had audio-stuttering problems with AGA with non-jit euae.

No I say that with this config, some AGA games will be jerky (Aladdin IS jerky with or without JIT on my config).

@K-L

So, what if you use the settings I suggested? I could post my config here. Do you really need it to be windowed with scanlines? I suppose it's a preference thing, but I find it more enjoyable at full screen with native resolution.

I create a special screenmode on my Sam460lite for not having this ugly fat pixelized lowres pixels on the big LCD-Monitor! I add Scanline-Emulation to it to "double" the vertical resolution. It looks like on an old commodore CRT-Monitor and is really great. I´ve no big FPS drops (stay at 50 fps).

Where i can see the difference with JIT enabled is on games like Turrican1, Pinball Dreams and some others. They are playable now without sounddrops or slowdowns in terms of framerate.

But it was mandatory in my to set cpu-speed to real, because some bad coded games like Quick&Silva runs too fast. And it seems that in this case the max cpu-speed emulation is stealing calculating time for the chipset-emulation that ends up in hacky sound and lower framerates!

@fingus

Nice! I'll try your screenmodes and suggestions. As for UAE-JIT tests, I've discovered that Dungeon Master 2 fails with:

System Error 46
Module: skul
Err ID: 0x002E.002E

Also, Tools Daemon does not work in my workbench when running with JIT enabled.

Both of these problems happen even with CPU set to REAL.

Scott

@scabit

The SDL version defaults to 44100hz, and the AMIGFX version (that includes Rachy's build) defaults to 11025hz. If you change sound_frequency in .uaerc to 44100, the sound is clearer.

@MickJT

for my personal experience the best speed in the "not jit" emulation is gaven
with 8bit sound 22050 4 channel stereo (amiga original config)

I prepared a video with Starstruck demo running on euae jit on MorphOS 3.4/Powermac G5 2 GHz. I set cache = 0 because cache=2^x gives cache missed errors. Even with cache=0 it is still faster than old euae, only mountains part of this demo doesn't play fluently. Gloom, breathless, xtreme racing are all played with ok speeds without slowdowns. The speed is similar to 040@33 MHz

@rzookol

Isnt that quite slowish for a JIT engine running on a 2Ghz machine ?

Dont get me wrong, I apreciate all this. Just wondering...

Cheers

Martin

@Metalheart

In its current state, the jit works better if cache is disabled. Once this issue is fixed it will be much better too.

When it's enabled (and that it doesn't quit before), sysinfo indicates about 85mips on a 2.3 GHz G5, which is rather ok (it's a private build that doesn't try to use the slow mcrxr instruction).
On a powerbook G4@1.67GHz, it gives about 70mips.

@kicko

See above. The released OS4 build is not "optimal" for G5 or PA6. It performs horribly when the mcrxr instruction is used.
