Check out more details and the video (!) here

Again news item reported by Murakami (the impossible news finder ) published in AmigaPower

@elwood

Actually i have did this a while ago, too. I left out icon.library & wb.lib to have enough space for the kingcon-handler. But i never found the time to burn this into a eprom.
It should be possible - if you have enough space left - to include a cd file system, so you can boot from a cd-rom, but i never tried this.

Compress the ROM with all the needed libraries and add a decompressor at the start to unpack it into the RAM. This way you will have enough space.

To avoid a reboot when loading the "AmigaOS ROM update" I presume.

But note that I just report the news item here, I didn't do this ROM myself.

Not anymore, 'the sleeping filing cabinet' complained and got the video removed.

Yup, that's right... they complained about someone hosting a video showing an A1000 booting into OS3.9

@Doobrey

I just read it here.

They have been asked by Amiga Inc.'s lawyer "ReedSmith.com" to remove anything related to "ROM 3.9" from the forum, because, according to the letter they received, version 3.9 was developed by Amiga Inc. and they would not have the legal right to work with the beta versions.

One thing is worrying me: Amiga Inc. can afford a lawyer!

Yeah, just imagine what happens if you would pay for a TV-commercial for promoting Amiga? Amiga Inc.'s lawyer would sue your a s s off for that "crime".

@hatschi

Amiga INC just wants to stop any activity about "Classic" Amiga. They never understood how the Amiga-Community had begun and how the community acts. Remember HQC-Kickstart, Level-42 Kickstart and all the Antivirus-Kickstarts? A1000 rulez.

@Doobrey

I didn't get to see the video (too late), but do I understand correctly that an A1000 was supposed to be booting OS3.9? Someone must have done some hacking of binaries then, because nothing from OS3.5 onwards will run on the 68000 in an A1000.

From OS3.5 onwards, the OS needs a 68020. Of course, the "A1000" may have a souped-up 68020 inside it, but it begs the question "just how real is the demo?".

Somehow I get the feeling that this applies to the AmigaOne likewise.

Yep, now would be the time I guess.

They exchanged some libs with hacked ones that were compatible with 68000.
Basically, it was not any different from what everybody in the community is already doing with tools such as Blizkick: loading updated, beta or hacked versions of libraries as a module and mapping them as a ROM.
The only difference is that they made a complete pakcage (.rom) out of it. But even that is not so unusual, since you don't always want to have a 800 characters-long command line after your Blizkick command in the startup-sequence.

Oh for crying out loud!

Well, since someone has their attention, let's respond to that contact with questions about the DISCOUNT COUPONS, and everything else that seems to send them into a coma.

edit: in fact you could probably use the text string "Where's the discount coupon money?" as a ward to magically prevent Amiga Inc from even seeing it in the first place. Just kind of past it around the page in random places...

It seems strange that an apparent dormant company actually took the time to instruct lawyers to do this. I'm also surprised they have never once attempted to prevent the distribution of previous AOS/KS video footage, especially given the numerous AOS 4.0 footage out there. There be spies about.

I saw this footage yesterday at another site and clearly saw Amiga Inc (c) 2006. I didn't realise they were or have been working on anything for the classic Amiga for quite some time.

Eitherway what could prevention of distribution of such material really achieve? Especially to merit the instruction of lawyers???

Uh oh, like Amiga Inc.'s lawyer sueing Helgis for uploading Zami-screenshots?

I don't think there is any legal basis for doing that. However, the situation might be different with "kickstart 3.9" footage, since that version was essentially hacked together from beta-parts of unknown copyright/legal status.
