| We are now finalising the needs for the Aros/Amiga user with regards to an Aros/Ubuntu powered netbook. However, whilst we know what makes a good netbook and we have honed down to a small number of choices, I want to be sure to get the best unit to support most users before committing to a choice. Ignore the image shown it is just a sample image and not the final case look.

Great stuff!
At last Linux fans may attain fully-functioning AROS on the same machine. I really hope WiFi comes soon because what I'm expecting now at home is a total disaster (AP gets crazy while reconnecting between MorphOS and AROS).
Anyway you asked for comments .
My idea of a netbook is that it should be as small as possible (which is related to cost also). So I would opt for smaller screen. About the processor/chip, again. The cost. People are blaming cost of Sam, cost of MorphOS license, cost of the PPC Minis - then maybe this is the factor that should drive anything AMIGA without loosing much. Again as I wrote on some other thread, I would also save on any other appliance (see: HDD volume). I really hate wasting of resources, maybe that's why I still love Amiga
BUT
There's one disadvantage of my suggestion. Assume one uses AmigaForever emulation (in either way, I'm not yet familiar with UAE on AROS side) - this drains batteries heavily. So maybe a second option - the other chip with longer battery life (strict justification just given).
Have all best in your AROS hardware lines

| If we get AudioEvolution to AROS, Imica would be the perfect mashine to use it with. One pci slot to use with a good soundcard, like the ones that is supported by Envy24ht.
Nice little quiet mashine, you can take anywhere to record whatever you like.
For the Netbook question, I'm little unsure about the whole thing. Since Acer aspire one series a almost fully supported, I would rather support them as official AROS netbooks, and then come up with a distro that installs everything to it including not open source drivers. That could at least be native intel gfx-drivers. I would buy something like that. It would be no problems with sending, and taxes etc. You would sell something that could be downloaded at once.
The problem would be that you can not sell open source OS etc, but you are only selling it with the drivers. I don't know the legal aspect with all this, but sure is a way around it that would make it attractive.
The way I feel right now is that AROS needs a real serious app. like AE Fully functional. Then you don't have to appologise for this and that (no we don't have java etc) it would be first of all a recording studio.

I have not abandoned the desktop. It was never meant to be a platform people would buy, but one to inspire people. It is however a great little system and this is proved by people building there own.

I was thinking it would be cool to choose a Commodore netbook. _________________ Leo Nigro, CTO Commodore USA, LLC Opinions expressed are my own and not those of C= USA. Commodore/AMIGA "Beautiful, High-Performance, Home Computers for Creativity and Entertainment." |
