| Some time ago there was some excitement about a video demonstrating fluent 1080p video replay on the 8610. But now the good old 744x strikes back and was demonstrated last weekend in Bad Bramstedt to be also capable of fluent 1080p h.264 video replay. Other than the 8610 maschine, this old g4 was powered by a real OS - MorphOS. I think that's kind of impressive. Last edited by Zylesea on 05-Nov-2008 at 12:48 AM.

That is impressive. Did they say if the decoding was done all on the CPU? I ask this because my 1.6GHz Turion 64 can't decode H.264 AVC streams (i.e., BluRay) fluently. To play it properly I have to deinsterlace and transcode to DIVX first.
Also, what software did they use for decoding? MPlayer? Or something else? More details please.

What profile used for h.264? What decoder did you use i.e. CoreAVC, Cyberlink, WinDVD?
To improve performance with reduced quality, ffmpeg decoder(Linux) has options to disable in-loop filters. Last edited by Hammer on 05-Nov-2008 at 07:46 AM. Last edited by Hammer on 05-Nov-2008 at 07:42 AM.

Not in direct reference I guesss, but *I* was thinking of that thread (and some other on morphzone.org IIRC, too). Unfortunately I don't know the exact details, since I haven't been at that meeting. Bigfoot demoed MorphOS on the Mac Mini and showed "fluent 1080p h.264 video replay" using MPlayer. Nevertheless it shows impressively the power of Altivec and of optimized code (Fab did some work on MPlayer). _________________ My programs: via.bckrs.de MorphOS user since V0.4 (2001) |

With most Blu-Ray titles, the decoder must take into account of Advanced Access Content System (AACS).

Tri-core PPE @3.2Ghz (with 1.6Ghz L2 cache) Xenon was max'ed** out while playing HD-DVD title. **With some tasks offloaded to the GPU. Last edited by Hammer on 05-Nov-2008 at 10:38 AM. Last edited by Hammer on 05-Nov-2008 at 10:37 AM.

For X86 H.264, refer to http://labs.divx.com/node/6443 DIVX H.264 beta vs CoreAVC vs FFDShow-tryouts _________________ Amiga 1200 (rev 1D1, KS 3.2, PiStorm32/RPi CM4/Emu68) Amiga 500 (rev 6A, ECS, KS 3.2, PiStorm/RPi 4B/Emu68) Ryzen 9 7950X, DDR5-6000 64 GB RAM, GeForce RTX 4080 16 GB |

| Hello!...
On Monday 10th of November, next Amitopia TV release will happen. It will be a 40min show with focus on Amiga Meeting 2008 and Colmar, with specials released on YouTube later on.
I need a server where I can store Amitopia TV episodes, so if someone wants to help out?
Regards, Michal, http://amitopiatv.blogspot.com

The H.264 AVC files were off a video camera, so no AACS. I have CoreAVC and my 1.6 GHz machine is just not fast enough. They say that you need a dual-core machine.
