The MorphOS development team would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year.


As the first release of 2009, we have prepared an update pack for the now out-of-date MorphOS 1.4.x which includes various minor improvements. Most notably, the archive includes several libraries that are required to stay compatible with new software releases, such as future Ambient versions and applications relying on PowerSDL, as many developers continue to migrate to MorphOS 2.x.

The Update Pack for MorphOS 1.4.x is available for download in our files section. To install the update, unpack the archive and copy all files to your system partition. Please take special note that this update is not intented to be installed on MorphOS 2.x or higher.

Very welcome to see continued support for the 1.x line. While I registered 2.x for my Efika I haven't done so for my Pegasos and decided to keep that maschine on 1.4.5. The next MorphOS key will be for my Mini that currently is in waiting mode for MorphOS.

the update consists libz, libpng, libjpeg and others in standard library form (z.library, png.library, jfif.library) so programs/datatypes/reggae classes which uses it are smaller about 100-200 kb and required less memory so it's wise to install it on mos for pup

With those libraries size of powersdl_image.library reduces from 637K to 60K and I dont have to maintain separate builds for MorphOS 1.x and 2.x. MorphOS 2.x users are still getting an advantage of altivec blitters and mixer and MorphOS version is the only SDL build in the world using full AltiVec acceleration

Another advantage is that it makes it possible use more standard libraries under MorphOS 1.x i.e. hpdf.library and mng.library no longer need MorphOS 2.0 to run.
