Very nice, I hope AROS get Flash support someday too.

Cool! That seems to be a more updated flash than IB has, so any chance of getting this into the OS4 version of OWB, or even IBrowse?
Being able to view YouTube etc. online would be pretty nice.... _________________ - Don't get fooled by my avatar, I'm not like that (anymore, mostly... maybe only sometimes) > Amiga Classic and OS4 developer for OnyxSoft. |

| Ingenious! Does it play all youtube videos?
A pity you can't buy a new computer to run it on at the moment.
That puts it ahead of OS4 and AROS in my opinion.

Well done Fab! What are the performances of swfdec? i never tried to compile it |
According to Fab (and if I am not mistaken, this was mentioned on IRC some days ago), swfdec is somewhat faster and more compatible than gnash. Don't know if he compared them on x86, or he did some kind of port of gnash to MorphOS as well - I have come to the conclusion you can expect anything from Fab these days...
Kind regards, Andrea |

Actually that's what's said about swfdec generally in dedicated fora (at least about compatibility), but in practice, swfdec is really not optimized for speed, to say the least (many unoptimized algorithms/designs, abusive cairo usage, ...). So, the performance is rather poor, but some places can be easily improved (i already tripled the speed in places flv/video is involved). I've never tried gnash extensively, but i'd hope it performs better speed-wise.
So, this swfdec plugin is for me more a way to validate owb plugin system, because all these opensource flash solutions (both gnash & swfdec) are still far from being usable, at the moment.

Nice work. For such a small community we have some pretty sharp cookies out there! As others have mentioned, if you could share the code for others to benefit from all platforms win.
Cheers!

| Perhaps a bounty could be created to reach a certain figure to cover costs of opening this code to OS4, 68k, and Aros devs and so thank developer financially for work. This is what happened with poseiden, a figure was set and then it was reached by all pulling together. As long as it is reasonable then I believe it would get strong support.
Again, we all win if we pull together, but developers need to be paid for hard work.

Hi Fab,
could you release the source code. What about a collaboration with Afxgroup to speed up the ports?
Thank you.

I'm using the original NPAPI plugin system (which is already working in OWB), modified to deal with shared amiga libraries instead of shared objects, very much like ibrowse flash plugin (its sources for the 68k version are available on aminet). So basically, all dlopen/close/sym* (or the equivalent glib stuff) calls are just changed to call shared library functions instead. Then, you obviously need to provide a few methods in the OWB plugin system to add "IDCMP" handlers, draw methods that can be used by the plugin to communicate with OWB, which highly depends on the toolkit you use (which is MUI in my case). And that's it for the OWB side, basically.
So if like Joerg stated, he wants to use a shared object system, there's just the input/draw stuff to implement, that depends on Reaction/Intuition.
About the plugin itself, it's just implementing the NPAPI functions. Gnash & swfdec already comes as NPAPI plugins, so there's not too much to change there.
