| Hi all..
On the "Van Pong Tot Playstation" meeting in Maarssen Holland we made a review of the installation process of MorphOS 2.4 on a Mac Mini 1.5GHz (silent upgrade model).
See the whole review HERE (it's in Dutch, but the pictures say enough though). Page translated in Google Translate HERE.
Some Sample Pics:
Dutch review HERE. Translated HERE.

| I have some questions to all macmini/morphos users:
1. did ethernet drivers works fine without bugs ? 2. did sound card work ? AHI and so on, no problems/ no bugs ? 3. did 2d and 3d works with HW acclearation ? (i mean did Warp3D/GLs works ?)
And question to Fabian :):
How fast works your sfwdec with latest owb on the1.5ghz mini ? Imho that enough for youtube even without HW cairo ?
In end, any benchmarks to compare ?:) For example very interesting to see speed benchmarks in compare between peg2/1ghz and macmini 1.5ghz.

Ad 1. Yes, im posting from latest OWB on MorphOS 2.4 on Mac Mini right now Ad 2. Yes, no problem at all. The only thing is that you cannot adjust volume from system's mixer. But if you have an application with it's own volume slider that's no problem at all. Digi Booster Pro 2 also works perfectly :) Ad 3. I don' t know, never was interested in that. |

| Interesting read, although I look forward to a more comprehensive/thorough review one day. Id find speed comparisons to other MOS hardware interesting to see as well. Slightly off topic, but the unregistered version of MOS2.4 slows down after 30 minutes of usage if Ive read correctly ? Slowed down to what sort of speed ? How exactly does the "slow down" feature work ? Thanks

AFter 30 minuts you just have a window, where you have words "blalbla, you use unregistered version, after 1 minute you will have eveil slowing downs".
And after that time, system still works, but it works madness slow. Not like slow cpu or kind, but everythink like in some "Boosy looping" (in coding terms it looks like one big "while" ). So, for example, if you run wookiechat and 30 minuts are passed, you still, can talk in wookie chat (with a bit slowing down of typing the letters), but if you will try to open any new window, or swith to any other app, or if you will just try to run any new up - then better make a reboot, becouse everythink will slowing down into madness :) There is picture of that window (from the above links):
For sure, that can be "crackable", but i hope it will be not in near future .. (well .. as much as possible). But imho 200$ it's pretty high price, and for now, mos devels will face with facts : growing user base and avail cheap hardware, will mean also more ppls who will try to crack it. Maybe Hyperion not want to make Mac port by the same logic: it will be just copied when it's start to be more or less popular in some areas .. Last edited by kas1e on 18-Oct-2009 at 11:31 AM. I agree the price is too high. I spoke with a couple of people at the club in Maarssen last weekend, and we all found 150,- EURO to much asked for a Hobby OS.
A price range of 75-80 EURO's will boost the MorphOS sales. They really should start a promotion camaign right now. Now they got momentum.
In the mean time I will use the "trial version". 150,- EURO is a bit overpriced if you ask me, and I will wait for another solution or promotion from the MorphOS team.

3. Whole 3D stuff works. Quake3 scores something like 75fps on demo four (compared to ~40 on Peg2 with a better gfx card).
About swfdec, it's about 1.5 times faster. :)
So, it seems ok for some stuff like googlevideo, but still not fast enough for youtube. But as said previously, it all comes down to youtube particular layout, flash complexity, swfdec implementation and cairo rendering).

130 euro for AmigaOS and at least 400-500 euro for Sam vs 150e for MorphOS and about 200e for Mac Mini.
I prefer the second option. |

Let's be very reasonable. If you want to get a bigger audience 400-500 EURO's for a motherboard nowadays is really rediculous. An brand new AMD or Intel mobo go for starting prices at 35,- EURO's... and has the latest features on board.
Maybe you are a diehard user that want to pay all that money for a hobby OS but the majority doesn't.... I think the MorphOS team should really take momentum and drop the price around 75,- EURO's as a promotion deal! Then their share will be bigger.. for sure... But as with all Amiga companies, marketing is not in their vains...

True, im able to spend my last money to support MorphOS Team. Comparing AMD or Intel hardware with any AmigaOs, MorphOS capable hardware has no sense at all.
Marketing.. There is no marketing at all imho :( |

Hope that the MorphOS team is reading with us...
But to be honest, I'm glad with the competition. Finally there is a solution to run an AmigaOS clone on cheaper and more modern hardware.
