@Seiya

Is this SW or HW? Because the X1000 was using SW rendering.

Anyway, it's pointless for now trying to compare OS/HW combos. The X1000/OS4.x is still deep in the developement phase.

@Argosy

Where's the X1000 mentioned here? You are the only one comparing these results with the X1000 ones published some time ago. Seiya has just published the framerates he got on his own system, without any other references.

This is quake 3 arena... The x1000 demo was quake 2, so highly doubt this post has anything to do with the quake 2 demo.

Either way it looks good to me and shows that aros is starting to become rather capable when it comes to 3d games.

Wow, kind of amazing really how our little OS is progressing.
Must try this, although I guess I will get fragged really quick.

I'm glad to see such classics on AROS.
Got to try it out myself.

@Seiya

Please do that test (broadway vs icaros). If there is really a difference I might have introduced some regresson allong the way. (icaros is based on never codes AFAIK)

thx for the tests, this is interesting.

I have problems running quake 3 with my nvidia 6800. It crash all the time and I'm pretty sure it is Gallium.

around 12% are much. I think i will hold for the next release the old systemfiles and give only new apps. Maybe it has to do with the work of Pavel Fedin too? I tried a newer nightly, one of the first with the changes made for the shell (scrollbar) and i could not run JanusUAE with the Nouveau driver.

@Seiya
Some other 2D stuff is a bit slower too. Open a new Tab in NoWinED for example.
But in total it is much faster than VESA, especially above 1024x768.
Nouveau is great! And maybe the last quirks are really made by some changes on other Parts in AROS.

Thank you Seiya for testing! Really, we need people like you.

@phoenixkonsole

The speed regression is probably my work. ;) It's more noticable the more frames you have (has to do with on card blitting). That is why it's most visible on simple demos having high frame rate (like gears etc). I would not hold back in installing new system files - I'm not planning to work on it any time soon and it is only visible when you have high rendering rate (and when you have more than 25 FPS you don't see the difference in game usablity anyway)

@Seiya

Yup, because mesa demos are simple they spent relativelly less time rendering and more time bliting, thus are more impacted by the change.

Hello, I've done a little video about Quake III Arena and Aquaria on AROS. This video has been taken grabbing the output of my GeForce 7800 TV-out. And it has a nice background song too...
