@kickstart

You can also buy Radeon HD 2.4 driver from Amistore!
Its good to buy instead to have everything for free, important to support Developer!

Because it is an update to an already purchased product. Buy V1.0 and you too can get V1.2 for free...

@Severin

I think Kickstarts question is retorical; Why should users pay for a feature that should be covered by the OS aka Hyperion?

The answer is that AEON has contracted the work getting the driver developed to avoid having to wait for x amount of years for people to be able to use their hardware to the extent possible.
Development cost money and AMD are not going to develop radeon drivers for our platform anytime soon.

"But on windows/other massproduction platforms the driver is free! Why should users of a platform that paid premium for the underutilized hardware pay for drivers ontop of that!?"

The driver development cost is already included in the price of the graphics card, so people is paying for it. But since AEON foots the bill to expedite the development, our plaform have to recover that cost. If you have issues with that model, you should not pick NG amiga as you hobby ;) Noone is forcing you to pay up. You could always wait for AOS4.2, but then I think you in for a good wait.

If you from time to time read Moobunny you see some people ridicule zzdh10 for pulling some of his utilities from osdepot, making a pack that turns it from freeware to commercial product.
Basically someone wants everything for free. How someone can throw a fit over 4-5 quid is beyond me, but again, some people will ridicule for the sake of it.

"ok,.....so you are saying the performance vs cost ratio on this plaform is reasonable!?"
No thats not what Im saying, but I think the majority of users here are willing to put up with "unrealistic prices" to keep developers (hardware/software) motivated. Plus after the dawn of apps on ios/android, the users are flooded with free and cheap apps daily. We are spoilt.

Zzdh10 for example seems quite invigorated, and I cant wait to see his future developments :)
And for the record I think his utility bundle is worth more than he is asking.
That point is also viewed as redicolus by the Moobunnies, and anyone that disagree are retarded piggiebanks for the commercial entites on our platform(s).
Go figure

I think Kickstart got a problem with the core buissnissmodel, not accounting for the unitprice goes up when the costrecovery has to be done by relativly low unitcount.

I guess some people are prepared to pay for something that exists and works than wait for something free that does not exist .

" read Moobunny you see some people ridicule zzdh10 for pulling some of his utilities from osdepot"

Alleluia, I am famous. I am mentionned on MooBunny !

i hope that it shows me as a dirty "greedy dev" to ask for 5€ for 14 of my OWN programs that I developped since 2 years !

But I thought that there were no OS4 users on Moo, why are they interested by our "market" ?

I will try to read that this evening, thanks for the notication Overflow

@Spectre660

Yep, agreed.

And as was mentioned in another thread by Cherry Darling; they barely recovered the cd printingcost by their sales. We can only hope that a more streamlined commercialisation of the platform can do more than just costrecovery. For people to be able to justify more time spent to make higher quality/updated software it would be nice if they have some money to show for it.

I think most of us are able to evaluate the amount of milage we get out of our hard/software vs what we spend, and decide if its worth it.
If the aswer is no, then stick with the classic hardware and freeware production.
Nothing wrong with that either

@zzd10h

Just sell the source code for a big sum like a certain browser and nobody will bother you .

or take a bounty and leave work half-finished

We can continue to slap each other on that polemic level, can we?

We all love our amigas, it reminds us of life when we were twelve year olds.
Sadly, it makes some of us think it is OK to behave like one too.

Nothing else, like speedups or bug fixes?

So that basically means there is no point in upgrading to v1.2 for any current X1000 owner who already has a working Radeon card? Functionality change comes only in v2.4?

@OlafS25

I contributed about US$100.00 to both the referenced bounties.
Paid for one RadenHD 1.0 license and got one with an AmigaOne 500 purchase.
So have no problems . Except not having a an OS4.1 machine at the moment.

@Spectre660

I think OWB bounty was fair, you know what you get and what it costs. And everyone could decide if he wants to donate or not. BTW the same is the case regarding the drivers.

the discussion turning freeware in commercial software is a little different. From aminet I know it only that a software was developed as freeware and then a new improved one turned in a shareware, the old was still there. In this case the old software is retreated and sold and I think that created the discussions. But everyone can decide what he does with his work (as everyone can decide if he wants to pay for it).
