| Hi,
I have the problem that DVDs (containing pics) I burn with AmiDVD 1.47 can only be read on SAM which they where burned with. :( Reading the docs, I see that AmiDVD should autoclose/finalize DVDs after burning. So they should be readable on other (normal) dvd-drives, I guess.
Anyone having a clue what could be going wrong? Is there any amiga-specific setting I might have set by accident (though I am using the default, out of the box settings)?
Would really love to stop producing those "semi-coasters"... :-/
Thanks in advance.

It's better to untick AmigaOS and U-Boot boxes. _________________

What dvd-writer are you using?
What specific OS4 capable hardware are you using?
What DVD media are you using?

Anyone having a clue what could be going wrong? The Disks? Not all disks are necessarily compatible. I have some 8x DVD-Rs of unknown brand that work fine with the AOpen 16x DVD/RW. What's your speeds set at for recording? What does AmiDVD show? _________________

With Verbatim (CDs or DVDs) I never had problems, even on x16 speeds (both used on Amiga or peecee). Last edited by Phantom on 21-Sep-2009 at 05:11 PM.

| Hi,
@ajs The pictures are 1:1 from my digicam, so they are pure 8.3-format. ;) So the extension is not the cause. :(
@Snuffy The discs are labled 16x, AmidDVD shows 18x, did burn them with 12x though (AmiDVD's default), just to be on the safe side...
Tested them (burned two) with 3PCs and one standalone player. After that I stopped, not wasting more money than necessary.
Maybe I should look for my IDE/SATA-Adapter and try to burn with the same drive/disc on PC...

I think that's not money the problem. Just to help the Amiga community go bigger and better. But it's your call. _________________

MakeCD doesn't work for me with DVDs.
I can burn data DVDs using MakeCD that can be read on Windows and on AmigaOS 3.9 but not Linux or AmigaOS4.1.

MakeCD is very difficult to use/understand for a novice user. AmiDVD and FryingPan are both easy-to-use. _________________

| Hi,
I finally managed to pack the burner from SAM to the PC (with some aditional SATA/IDE-"magic" ;)). And the result is the same. Images burned with it can only be played on the same device, no matter if it is connected to SAM or PC. So it is not the software. :)
I wonder, if it might be a possible problem just with "-R" media.
Will now try -R from a differnt company and some +R, to see if this makes a difference.
Or maybe I should just get me a new burner.... :D

Sounds like the burner isn't closing the disk or session. That's the proccess needed to use the disk on another player. Sounds like the burners bad. _________________ Hate tends to make you look stupid... |

| @padrino Do your experiments with a DVD+RW disc (or DVD-RW if you must use a less reliable format), then you won't be creating lots of coasters _________________

| @sundown I thought so, too. But there is nothing I can do, especially as the programms tell it close the media and the also show "closing media"-msgs. So I don't know what's going on.
@ChrisH Well, as my final plan is not to use -/+RW to give away, I have to try with -/+R ;)
I finally tried a different brand for +/-R and non worked. So the writer is flawed with any type of media.
Maybe I try to contact Samsung for a replacement. If I am right, Samsung gives (here in Germany at least) 3 years warranty on DVD-writers...
Still puzzling such e bug.
