| My Brother in law is selling his, and I'm about to buy, but thought I'd best check the community !
anyone had any luck connecting to this via OS4 ? I do have the final pre-release installed, and it is a USB camera.
I seem to remember someone somewhere talking about using the DC10 (IIRC !) camera with OS4, but cant remember where ! sicky ? Rhino ? has this been mentioned in Total Amiga (great mag! plug plug ) _________________

I don't know specifically about the DC3400 but after recently testing a new Kodak C310, it was found out that it wasn't USB massstorage compliant but vendor specific. Therefore incompatible with the Amiga. This may be true for other Kodak cameras. _________________ Amiga Kit Amiga Store Links: www.amigakit.com | New Products | A600GS |

If it uses removable media that can be read with a card reader (CompactFlash, Memory Stick, etc.) then it is Amiga-compatible. It's much better for the batteries, too, if you use a card reader instead of connect the camera directly to the computer. _________________ former µA1-C owner Listen to my podcast, Autobiography of a Schnook (there are worse things you can do!) - schnookpodcast.com |

ha! well I've got a 7-in-1 reader on the internal USB hub. might be doable from the linux side too..*
cheers !
-edit- *It seems that in debian, libgphoto2-2 can handle a selection of Kodak cameras:
usr/lib/gphoto2/2.1.5/libgphoto2_kodak_dc120.so libs/libgphoto2-2 usr/lib/gphoto2/2.1.5/libgphoto2_kodak_dc210.so libs/libgphoto2-2 usr/lib/gphoto2/2.1.5/libgphoto2_kodak_dc240.so libs/libgphoto2-2 usr/lib/gphoto2/2.1.5/libgphoto2_kodak_dc3200.so libs/libgphoto2-2
doesnt mention dc3400 though... any linux/kodak experts in'th'ouse ? Last edited by Agafaster on 01-Jan-2006 at 03:17 PM. Last edited by Agafaster on 01-Jan-2006 at 03:07 PM.

I've checked the manual and the camera takes compact flash cards so it can be used on an A1.
The problem with the camera is it's age, it's only a 2.1 megapixel (896x592) 100 ASA camera, which is crap compared to the modern cameras, even the sub £50 ones are better than that. if your brother in law wants more than £20 for it tell him to bu**er off. it's just not worth much now and because of it's age it'll be high power, batteries won't last long... Cheers ears ! He was only gonna ask 20 quid anyway, which seems reasonable to me for what it is. I know its only 2 MPixel, but compared to me phone (MC60 Siemens, 352*288 4096 colours), thats absolute acres, sorry must do metric; hectares !
hmm. might not bother then, if it wont take NiCads.
incidentally, he thought he'd get 40 on ebay. reasonable ?
(then again, I heard of someone who sold a pound coin there for more than 2 quid ! ) _________________

If it's a massstorage device then it will work directly with OS4, otherwise just use (as stated by others) a multicard reader

cheers mate. I'm just mooting it at the mo. Linux is looking promising in the direct connection stakes, but if its a massstorage stick, then so be it.
of course, it comes with a CD so I can always try it on me work laptop !
gordon bennet, Severin, how big's that PDF ?! _________________

I have one of thoose cameras too. (No OS4 here though). But iirc it has some special way of fetching the images from the camera (not MSD). I havn't tried to connect the camera to my PC directly. I'm using a memorycard reader instead (probably faster anyway).

Probably PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol).

Yup its pretty good (for being a 2MP camera). I got it from my brother, when he bought a new one. Its a bit big perhaps.

Have a Sony DSC-F828 here, and it doesn't work with OS4 yet, even if it is recognised as masstorage.
Ahem... can I take advantage of this "photo" thread to ask a thing? Yes? Thanks! :) I bought a remote/time lapse "device" two weeks ago, is there a program working with OS4 to make movies out of a series of jpeg pictures?

Yes, which at present is not supported by OS 4, but who knows, sometime soon maybe?

The USB drivers within OS4 have been updated and improved over a period of time, wait til update 4 is released and see if it works then!

There are programs on Aminet that make AnimGIFs out of individual frames, there are probably ones that can create IFF ANIMs as well.
The problem with JPEGs is they are 24-bit, and neither GIF nor ANIM5 support this.
I doubt there is anything for the Amiga that can do the same with MPEG, there is a remote possibility of CDXL, but that's HAM8 so the colours might suffer.

| Doesn't work, what I'm doing wrong? I copied the string under "Creating an MPEG-4 file from all the JPEG files in the current directory:" from this link http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/HTML/en/menc-feat-enc-images.html

i got it !
yeah it is a smidge chunky, but not to worry ! it seems quite robust too.
NOW... it seems that my USB card reader, that stopped working right after doing update3 is not working (it seems, according to the Hyperion IRC) due to an alledged CrossDOSFileSystem.
anyone got any ideas how to get the device mounted ? is it enough to go from version 51.21 (presumed buggy) back to 51.18 (from update 2) and reboot, or are there other things to do like mountfiles ? examples are always welcome pretty please !!) _________________

First, open up USB Inspector and check it sees the card reader. If it does, you'll have an entry something like this:
Mass Storage Device Class: Mass Storage Subclass: 6 Driver: MassStorage Device Task
That means the USB side of things is OK. If you pres Ctrl-Alt-M it will show you all of your Mass Storage devices. With a card inserted, you should see a line which reads something like: Name: USB xx Reader DOS Name: USB0 Filesystem: FAT Media Size: xxx MB
If you see that, it should be appearing on WB.
If not, report here what you do see.
The files you need to worry about btw, are: L:CrossDosFileSystem DEVS:USB/FD/massstorage.usbfd
There are no mountlists - the Mass Storage driver handles that.
