| I was fiddling around (as y'do) and started playing with XAmiRTG, the X-server for AmigaOS. it works, but I can't get it to do anything meaningful, like log me in the Unix box ! what else do I need apart from XAmiRTG ?
PS: it doesnt seem to mind running on AOS4 at all...just dunt do ote ! _________________ XH558 - the worlds last flying Vulcan. ok, its actually XL426 in the picture but you know what I mean. |

Xami is only a server, so you need some clients to use it. If you have a computer with linux in your network, you can launch a program on linux and open the display on Xami. I've installed Xami 402 here on OS4 and it works - but with problems. The fullscreen-mode has gfx-problems and in window-mode it hangs a little bit. Before I can use it, I have to do a 'reset' of the display using the X-client 'xrefresh'. At the moment I'm porting X11 to OS4 and it works quite good, but it has still some bugs and is not ready to publish. If you have the same problems with Xami, I can send you der OS4-version of 'xrefresh' to you.

| Interessting, indeed. Is this a new port or an existing X11 server? Do we get a seemingless integrated windowmanger for say reaction or MUI at some time ? That would be cool. But I guess it'll use it's own display (?) .

Sorry - no server so far. But I have all client libraries and most of the x-commands. I use Xami for testing, so I don't need the X-Server so far. First I want to finish the clients, maybe later the server. I want to publish the sources too (when it' done), so everyone can do it.
@ Jorge The project is based on the geekgadget-sources (X11R6.3). So it has it's own display. It's true, it is not amiga-like and the X11-clients are really old fashioned, but it's funny to see these applications running If everything works well - maybe QT for X11 would be a good idea.

i get a display - sort of a beige background, and the traditional X pointer for an idle X11 display.
the unix server I'm trying to remote on to is AIX on an RS/6000 box at work. I can use telnet from my A1, but an X interface'd be well cool !
I may yet try AmiWin222 from EUAE - can I get hold of Roadshow TCP/IP from inside the emulator ?

When I start Xami I get a window with a destroyed background. After calling xrefresh the background is white and Xami is ready to use.
If I understand it the right way, you want to use applications running on AIX in a display running on your Amiga? Then you only need Xami, a window-manager running on your amiga and of course you need an authorisation to access the apps on AIX. Unfortunalety I don't really understand the X11-authorisation under Unix. I'm looking for a easy to understand manual as well.
I send you the window-manager 'twm' and 'xrefresh', so you can try it.
About eUAE: don't know - sorry, but evilrich will know.
@evilrich Why not publishing it on OS4depot ?

No. Networking isn't supported in the AmigaOS version of E-UAE at the moment.

I did plan to release it as shareware (in a vain attempt to get something back for the vast amounts of time I've wasted doing OS4 development).
However, it's not ready for the end user yet. I stopped development of it because supporting OS4.0Pre3 would have been too much of a pain in the arse. And I had a crisis of faith last year and pretty much lost interest in AmigaOS for a while.
If there's any interest in this project, I could probably be persuaded to get it to a releasable state.
Cheers, Rich

Where is the donate button for this X-Server?

AmiWin is working under OS4, you don't need uae.
However I am courious about the current state of AmiWin. Do you know anything about it? Does Holger accept registrations? Is there any support for it? |

I'm interested in your X-Server as well. I only started this project, because the ixemul-stuff isn't working and there was nothing else available. And I think, that your skills are better than mine. Would be glad to register
