| Is there any way to increase the speed of VNC server on OS4?
Also I can only get it to work if I set the colour level to 'full'.
Thanks |

| @sg2 Support your server tight? If yes, how can i activate it with your server. Without tight you cannot control an other computer over internet, it's to slow.

My server supports no compression at all. It was written back in the days where I was watching the Olivetti group that invented VNC, without any protocol spec :)
(waaaaaaay before VNC fell into ATT's hands, and then went commercial)

| @sg2 Yes, I am using amivnc4.zip off os4depot.
Is there a different version I should use? Last edited by Radfoo on 09-Mar-2006 at 10:03 PM.

Exist no other open source vnc version with "tight" support, that we can port? It is only commercial? _________________ AmigaOne X1000 1,8 Ghz/2 GB Ram + Radeon 6670 2 GB + AmigaOS4.1 A4000T CyberstormPPC 604e-200Mhz/060/128MB+CybervisionPPC 8MB + AmigaOS4 and anymore other Amigas... |

The source of my server is available, it is up to anyone to enhance it (as is the case for many of my software, and that never happens:)
AmiVNC is not a port, it is an original creation of mine (even if old, buggy and whatever).
"Porting" a VNC server is very difficult, because they all depend on the existing OS mechanisms to get notified on screenchanges, but :
- we do not have such an API (this is why AmiVNC uses so much CPU : it is constantly comparing the actual front screen contents against its own buffer)
- even if we implemented an API in p96, so many applications do direct screen rendering that it would be barely usable
Plus, on the Amiga we have the delight of having to support : - so many screen formats (raster, planar, 4, 5, 8, 15, 16, 24, 32 bits, big endian or little endian, etc) - various graphics API's (graphics.library / p96 / cgfx)
Anyway, good luck :)
Regards, -- Stéphane
