Hello all fellow Amigans,

I can be wrong but I feel some despair in the community. It seems that some people are giving up. This is probably due to the hardware situation.
So I want to give my feeling to all of you.

I think there is absolutely no reason to stop believing in OS4. Do you really think Hyperion people are stupid enough to work on an OS that will never be used ? Of course not.
So I am 200% sure the hardware is coming. The current lack of hardware is definitely not a good reason to stop looking at OS4 and to look elsewhere.

Now to all the people that are waiting in the background for the hardware to come, I want to say: don't keep your hands in your pocket ! Don't hope "someone else will do it". Do something to bring the OS forward.
Every single step, even the smallest one, is a step forward to reach our goal. Every help you can bring to other users will make the market grow.

As an example, here is what I do.
Yesterday I translated LimpidClock in french so that all french Amigans can benefit from this great clock.
The last days I helped the TripleA team to write the website for the upcoming Alchimie6 computer show.
This show attracts 200 people that meets together and share ideas.
Almost every day I betatest IBrowse so that I can help the team to make this browser a success.
Often I betatest AmiGift to help Diego to bring this P2P software to OS4.

The fun we are looking for is ahead of us. Don't lose your faith.
Every action for OS4 is something done not for the others, but for you. Don't wait, act now!

The Amiga scene needs more people like Elwood!

People who do actual work to make Amiga better!

We need less whining useless malcontents.

@elwood

I am currently part of 2 pieces of software in "development". I quote that because one hasn't been looked at for ages. Our team has been working with a lot of projects but we'll get going again. The other is one you all know & will love more than you could imagine More on that as it comes.

I am also planning to purchase AVD. I cannot code nor do I have the time to learn but I figured, if I'm working with a few developers I want to help in any way possible.

FuZion.

You think I dress up like this to surrender?

In case you haven't noticed I actually have
a sword for smoting mine enemies especially
those would ridicule my use of a µA1 as my main
machine.

In this order:

Mozilla based web-browser
Affordable, available hardware
OpenOffice.

Get back to me when you've got those and we'll talk.

@TheDungeonDelver

If you want Mozilla/OOo/hardware more than you want OS4/Amiga hardware, feel free to look outside the Amiga world.
I already have a fast browser, a coming hardware and I don't need a several MBs huge office suite. CygnusED is already enough for me.

@others

Never ever stop supporting the OS. This is what we are here for. And one day, we'll get the benefit of these efforts.

Particularly relevant to a poster from France:

" ... we shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender ..."

There are one thing that prevent me from using my Amigas as my main computer, and that is an up-to-date browser; IBrowse simply can't do the trick anymore unfortuately.

Getting an A1 is something I have given up on a long time ago, so the money saved on not buying an A1 will be spent on other hardware, and not only Amiga hardware.

Go away from here if you want Mozilla/OOo/hardware.

I'd like to make two points here:

1) TDD has not made any unwarranted requests with regards to either Mozilla, OOo or hardware.

a We have that Amizilla foundation set up to look into a port for the Amiga (even if it looks unlikely, but still, many people have invested hard earned money into this scheme)

b OOo, although it is dead, was there not a quasi-serious attempt at organising a port of it?

c Hardware: TDD made the simple request for some hardware to come out. This is what everyone across the community is asking for. Just because you have an A1 does not set you above the rest.

2) As has been stated to other members who have made such undesired remarks in the past (re: "leave this forum" or "go away from here"); it is not up to you to make that decision for others, nor is it fitting that you direct such remarks at others. Drop it.

They signed stupid contracts already, so what makes you believe they couldn't be stupid enough for that?

If that's not the one damned good reason, what else could it be?

I'm not waiting for new hardware to come to OS4, I'm waiting for OS4 to come to PPC hardware I already have. My Pegasos is a Linux server at the moment as I didn't sufficiently like MorphOS at the time I tried it -- but later this year I'm setting up a new (x86-based) server, and I'm going to use whatever next generation Amiga is available for the Pegasos then, be it OS4, AROS or MorphOS, and dedicate the machine to the best (or available) solution. For the time being I'm happy with AmigaOS 3.1 and Linux. That's not what I call a surrender.

It's not that the world is drooling over OS4, but that its makers should exert themselves on the world. Hyperion should have started on planning to circumvent their contracts with that rotten corpse Amiga Inc. a long time ago, renamed their product and see what happened. I suspect that there is no will at Hyperion to get out of the hole in which they burrowed into.

I know nothing, I'm evaluating what's available and what people say. There is no hardware to run OS4 on, Amiga Inc. says nothing, and Hyperion lament about their inability to change the situation. What else do yo need? lol
