A friend of mine here in Italy user of AONE and OS 4.0, but no experienced with english asked me to launch this thread:

Anyone involved into datatypes for new systems here?

He want to know about advancements in developing of these datatypes, and mainly MP3 and Mpeg2 datatype...

He also tried Mpegadt, and has some problems in the first times, and now solved (advice: ACTUALLY PROBLEMS HE HAD WERE SOLVED), but he really is asking for something new to run on new Amiga OS.

Any info, any news please, so I could report to him whole situation?

Thanks in anticipation.

@Raffaele

Datatypes lack streaming capabilities, I don't know if it would be very complex to add support for streams. Something like MOS Reggae would be need

@Crumb

If I remember well the author of Reggae was relasing a version for AOS 4.0?

Do I remember it well?

Sure Reggae it is a beautiful piece of software it deserves to be supported by all main Amiga OSes.

@Raffaele

I think OS4 is quite poor now regarding into datatypes.
We should get somekind of .PPS, Flash, etc. datatypes, i can say that i'm not aware
is Multiview able to do such thing, but we need more of the datatypes.
It would be somekind of (media player) when we get .AVI .MPEG .QTIME etc.

But would that be powerful? well i don't know about that either :/

But more datatypes we need.

@Jape

Datatypes is a brilliant concept. However, the system is showing it's age due to lack of development. The datatypes system is in desperate need of updating. Several years ago a group was going to work on updating it. Sadly, they couldn't get enough developers onboard.

We really do need more datatypes, streaming capability, etc. But there are also many other things that need work. There just aren't enough developers working on AOS to get it all done right now.

@Crumb

It should be easier to implement piping the stream to some application, or hooking the stream to mplayer. The piping (shoutcast audio into mpega) was alreasy implemented in AREXX, see StreamMP3
(or an extended version with gui, playlist history by me : XStreamMp3)

Someone familiar with datatypes programming could easily combine something that uses an external application to handle the data.

Up-to-date flash? Forget it. Even mainstream as x86 linux is stuck with version 7 while Mac and Windblows have at least 8 now. PPS? With multilingual support? It's sounds like AOS/MorphOS port of OpenOffice.

Appologies for being pessimistic, but that how stuff looks like...

I would prefer more Amiga hardware now

You know, it would make more sense to link to those programs like this:

StreamMP3

XStreamMP3

Link to the program's Description page, from which you can read about the program, and you still have a clickable link to download the archive. The way you linked to it, all you can do is download the archive...

It actually is called eXtream. It is a streaming system that I have been working on for quite some time. It works now as an advanced audio system, but in theory you could use it to stream about anything.
