| BitlBee: An IRC to other chat networks gateway
It takes a few minutes to read through the help docs online to get familiar with the system, but once you've registered your MSN details, and added your login to the Perform on Connect script in Wookiechat (or the equivalent for any other client), its quite easy. Once you connect, the server guides you towards creating an account and usingthe system.
You join a channel on the network automatically when you've connected, and the people in the channel userlist are the people that are online in your contact list. When people come online or leave, it shows them joining or parting the channel. Away messages work. Theres no outgoing file transfers yet, but apparently incoming works. When you want to talk to your friends, you open a private tab to them, or message them. When people want to be added to your contact list, the server will prompt you to type "yes" or "no" to accept.
And the bonus of this is that your favourite IRC client functions are all there. Timestamps, logging, auto log reloading when opening a tab to someone, different coloured text for incoming and outgoing text, highlight samples, etc.
Also, you can be on IRC at the same time as MSN and not have to flick between windows all the time, because its unified in the one chat window.
Anyway, I just thought I'd mention it just in case people are fed up with the other alternatives. Enjoy

Very interesting, didn't know about that! Thanks for pointing it out, I'll give it a try.

Yea yea. you just want more people to use wookie. hehe
Edit: ill give it a chance as the server im using with jabber isnt working any good. Also epistula freezes my system so this is probably the only way for me to have msn and icq together. hmm the readme says compiled without msn support. Then its not usable for me. ? How did you manage to setup prefs/internet accordingly to manual in the aminet package in how-to-amiga-faq.txt.
It says you must add under services & server something, but what. I can't seem to add the port 6667 TCP properly under services.

Good idea. It is easier to change one's own behaviour - choice of messenger - than that of others. _________________ : AmigaOneXE (unmod.) 750FX/512 MB +stuff & AmigaOS 4.(0|1) : A1200/68060&96MB/SCSI/EM1200-Voodoo3 & OS 3.5 : A500/1MB : Pegasos (ff) 512 MB & MorphOS Praise seitan. |
