| Hi,
Currently I'm in the process of installing the YouTube-stuff in order to make those funny video's visible on my Micro.
I got as far as this one sentence in the read-me: "Then open IBrowse preferences and go to GUI/FABMenus." That one I figured out.
But then comes the sentence that made me resemble a monkey studying a rusty watch: "Drag&drop a 'Custom' element into 'Link' section in order to create a new context menu entry." Drag & Drop? You mean pick something up and drag it to some place? From where and where to? And how does it look what I'm supposed to be dragging? Ah, '*into* the 'Link' section'. I guess that's the right hand listview. But it all fully eludes me... I'm apparently a mere simpleton, but would anyone please take up the unrewarding job of educating me and enlighten me in the world of abacadabra? Please?

Oh, after reading, fiddling, reading, picking nose, reading, scratching @rse, reading, fiddling etc., etc. I finally managed to accomplish this gruesome task.
Therefore: case closed!
But thanks anyway for your remark which shows extensive contemplativeness.

Erm, not quite, to be honest. They get downloaded, but MPlayer (XMAS) crashes. Dunno why. The extension of the file is .flv. But then again, when trying to view a .mpg file it crashes too! And then i stopped investigating the matter.

I always feel right disappointed when people pose problems I'm bewildered about and then announce it is solved without any explanation for all of us who are just waiting to know. So on with that explanation please.

The problem arose when I failed to Drag & Drop 'Custom' into the 'Links' section (Settings). Proceed as per instruction open 'Settings', (double)click GUI in the ListView at the L/H side, choose FAB Menus. Now from the middle ListView drag the second entry ('Custom') onto the *R?H* ListView and drop it there. Rename and modify as per instructions. A child can do it! Thank God I have passed that stage decades ago!
To your satisfaction?

I also had this issue until I installed the OS4 Final update and latest version of MPlayer, then all of a sudden everything was fine... Try raising the stack a bit on the MPlayer executable, might help.Last edited by amipal on 10-May-2007 at 07:01 AM.

I didn't realise that I could get MPlayer to show YouTube videos until I read this thread. I just followed the instructions (*mostly) and it worked.
*Mostly = I didn't put the scripts in S: because that's the wrong place, they should be in the S:Shell/ drawer. I also don't have MPlayer (or any other third-party stuff) on the system partition, so I had to change the command line to address MPlayer properly.
However, it doesn't work fully. If I select "Play" for a YouTube URL from IB, the audio plays but no video appears. If I select "Play&Save", same thing happens (natch) but I can play it later with MPlayer_GUI and it works properly.
Must be something to do with the command options and Radeon overlay.
[edit] Remember I said that no video appeared? I was just wondering why the system appeared to be a bit slow and found out (using "top") that there was an invisible instance of MPlayer running somewhere, hogging 94% of CPU time. doing nothing. I guess it was waiting for access to something and Forbidding() while it did so.

If you put it in links then just press RMB over the video link (and then select the entry you made in teh FAB menu)and it will be saved (first) to your ibrowse path and when download is done it will be viewed automatically, streaming might be possible but i rather want it like this. _________________ See my blog and collection website! . https://www.blog.amigaguru.com |

As I said before, I used the RMB to launch it, but it didn't run MPlayer properly (twice), since no video appeared, only audio. On one of the two attempts MPlayer was left running, no window but lots of CPU activity. Half an hour later I aborted it.

Thanks, but I've observed that things seem fuddling more and more in one's second childhood.
@All
YouTube can be fun but BBC is serious, so serious they won't let me get a look in at their videos for fear I've not got real player or windows media player. I can't even get a video into cache from where I can save it as I sometimes manage on the odd site with AWeb. Anyone solved the media problem with the BBC?

| @amipal I'll give it all another go. Tomorrow, with less beer in the system! I swear i followed all the directions originally with no luck, maybe final-update has helped.

I found that I had to alter the command line that calls MPlayer, as the commands provided in the script aren't valid with the current MPlayer. _________________ After a decade away from the scene, I am back! |
