| Here's my little list of essential 68k (OS3) software for OS4.1:
* AssignManager by Matt Francis. The BEST way to manage assignments on OS4, even if the GUI looks a bit ugly. If you want a nicer-looking utility, and can live without a plain-text prefs file (not a good idea IMHO), then Assigns by Enrico Fedrigo is my second choice. Sad to say, but Thomas Frieden's ancient AssignPrefs is very buggy & underpowered, stay away!
* ASp. The ultimate Speccy emulator, and far nicer to use than Fuse IMHO.
* KingCON. The ultimate Shell replacement, which provides scrollable history, proper filename completion & much more! Somewhere I downloaded a version of KingCON that was fixed to work well with OS4.
* TextView. For reading & quickly comparing multiple text documents in a single window (also reads AmigaGuide & HTML documents, with the option to hide the mark-up tags). I am using v1.13, as the newer version was seriously crippled in the name of shareware IIRC.
* FileX. Good hex editor.
* PhotoAlbum & CyberShow. Awesome photo album (thumbnail preview) & picture viewer. Needs to be registered (if still possible) to be usable.
* A-Lock. An elegant way to stop people from using your Amiga (unless they know how to avoid S:User-Startup).
* FreeDB. A nice way to find the track names of your CDs, and even play them! Seems a little crash prone on OS4, so you have to learn it's quirks...
* SoundBox. Great little utility for converting between older sound formats. IIRC the sound playback does not work on OS4, but who cares?
edit: * Payback! How could I forget this great game? A bit of a pain to get working on OS4.1 though, but possible as long as you have a USB joystick (Competition Pro recommended). AdPro and FRED and all addons for morphing, fractals, etc. - The power of this package is still visible even today.
AmigaAmp(yes, I know the engine is PPC) Aminetradio - Still some features in both of these making them popular.
CyberAnim/CyberShow - Still the easy way to play back amiga anims on OS4.x
Frogger - still the only one with real time adjustment during playback of Brightness, Contrast, Saturation.
MUIBase - any other database programs match up to this one?
TurboPrint - still superb if you have a supported printer
VistaPro - WCS was still very buggy last I checked, so I expect this is still the best landscaping choice other than using a 3d renderer like Lightwave.
Webvision - I don't think too many choices exist beyond this one for just webcam?
PhotoAlbum, Photofolio, Picview, Collector, and Thumbs - all the thumb programs have strong and weak points. Too bad we can't have a committee lobby for the best features of each one being incorporated into the consumate thumb management system.

What's wrong with the OS4 version?
Also:
* Zip (OS4 version is broken so much it is unusable for the purpose of creating archives)
The other 68k stuff I use is all commercial/registered shareware, or is of limited use so can't be described as essential.

Verrry good list, I remember desiring to run of these ...
Is there any way to make Elastic Dreams, Candy Factory, Imagine 3D, Real 3D, Art Department Pro .. to run on OS4?
About the OS4 Depot / Aminet initiative,
Why not opening a 68k working OS4 depot section, or such a resource?
As far as I see, Paula and CIA limited workaround exists, an AGA emulation driver would be nice. There are tools to use E-UAE and WHDLoad, but these again dont use fast 68k emulation of Petunia ... Will there be ever better OS 3/AGA compatibility now when we all have 166-800Mhz RISC CPU and gfx card?
Is there any way to make more 68k apps work, as well as make good software no one is interested in, free to download (such as fully patched, all mentioned productivity software) ...
Also, some set of games would be nice. Does all CGX/AHI support games work? I remember Colonization being run in a WB Window?
Some PPC games obviously work!
Some good list of what exactly works with all files needed would be nice to see ... _________________ OS 3.x AROS and MOS supporter, fi di good, nothing fi di unprofessionalism. Learn it harder way! SinclairQL and WII U lover :D YT http://www.youtube.com/user/rasvoja |

In other words, yes, it works under OS4.x.

Nice. Is there anyway to make companies agree that the distribution becomes downloadable to everyone or to registred OS users? For small fee, such as 1$ or 10$ all products working? I believe they dont expect much revenue nowadays? _________________ OS 3.x AROS and MOS supporter, fi di good, nothing fi di unprofessionalism. Learn it harder way! I have Real3D v3.5 working on my MicroA1 with AmigaOS 4.1 (was also working with AmigaOS 4.0). I haven't used it much yet, so I don't know if there are any issues.
The free Amiga version of Real3D v3.5 is available from AmiKit as an AmiKit add-on or ADF disks. I downloaded the ADF disks (which are equivalent to Amiga floppy disks). The installation was a bit tricky, because my MicroA1 does not have Amiga floppy disk drives, so I used E-UAE to simulate a classic Amiga on my MicroA1 and installed Real3D onto my E-UAE Workbench. Then I quit E-UAE and dragged the Real3D drawer out to a more convenient location on my main OS4 partition.
Real3D launches just fine from OS4. I can't remember if I had to manipulate anything to get it working. But I used Screens Prefs to define a 640 x 480 P96 FakeNative screen to give the program a more classic look.

Here are some 68K programs I use on a regular basis on my MicroA1 with AmigaOS 4.1 ... IBrowse Final Writer 97 AmigaAMP Personal Paint 7 (AKA PPaint) TVPaint Real3D MakeCD KingCON MicroRexx
I'm using Final Writer 97 quite a lot these days. Still learning the paint programs and Real3D.

[edit]
I wouldn't say that any of these 68K programs are absolutely essential programs that I must use forever. However, in order to replace a 68K program with an equivalent PPC program, the PPC program must exist in a usable form.
So for example, I use OWB more than IBrowse and AmiDVD more than MakeCD, but I have not found a PPC word processor that can fully replace Final Writer 97. Cinnamon Writer was progressing nicely the last time I used it, but it was not quite there yet. I could probably use TuneNet instead of AmigaAMP, if I could resolve a few remaining issues that are off topic for this thread.

I have just downloaded Cinnamon Writer 0.62 which is a more recent version than I used before. It appears to be quite fast and I will try it out for a few days to see how well it works.
