Hello

in case you are wondering, Sunsite has pulled their big open source projects plug, thus pulling the http://aweb.sunsite.dk project page with them. This was warned back in April 2009, but I was given a loose agreement that the project could be allowed to stay on line.

It seems to have been silly of me to assume this would be followed through and thus did not put energy into making a backup site. So somewhere between October 16th and 19th, the main website, mailing lists and CVS went into limbo. I'm trying to get a hold of the main site and CVS, so Andy Broad and Frank Weber can get going again as soon as possible elsewhere.

@HMK

That's not good I assume Andy and Frank have a reasonably up-to-date local copy of the CVS anyway, which at least saves the source if not all the history?

No it's not, thanks Henrik for trying to sort it out for us.

I have totally upto date sources trees here. And all the release archives from 3.5.02 onwards (OS4 & 68k)

BTW there is an unoffial OS4.1 build here:

http://webplus.broad.ology.org.uk/aweb/

beware that it requires 4.1 (ie not 4.0)

this is bad news.

Better to put it on sourceforge.

There is apparently a backup, but I've not yet received it as they need to dig it out.

Thanks for the link to the unofficial build I have been using it on my sam440ep for the last week it works nicely on my sam440ep (I still prefer AWeb for downloading stuff to OWB).

@Thread

So let me get this straight, Netsurf, OWB, Aweb, Voyager and IBrowse, and now Timberwolf.

Would it not be easier for those looking after IBrowse, Aweb to join forces in the timberwolf development or OWB development?

Just curious and nose poking.

cheers

Then who should the author of Merlin join up with? Heh.

@utri007

I have obtained the backup (a 145 MB tar file). I'll try to make some sense of it later today.

Edit:

The archive contains the site in its original structure, all binaries, tools and nightly source backups, so it should be fairly quick to put up elsewhere as long as it's an Apache/PHP environment. There is no CVS, but Andy has, if I'm not mistaken, expressed a desire to move to SVN and start from scratch.

The question is now where to host it.

Oh, so sunsite aren't going to honor their agreement and put it back up and say sorry?

@MickJT

The agreement was never formally stated as it was based on a miscommunication between me and a Sunsite staff member, which is my fault. The equipment to serve projects has been taken down, so there aren't going to be any more serving from their location.

AWeb for OS4,1? Must try it later. It did fly on the XE before installing the new OS and lost all apps. (Had to reformat)
