I have now released RunInUAE r2, which is much improved:

* Hopefully fixed HD installed games not starting for some people. (Please reinstall Workbench 3.1)
* Added automatic loading of multi-disk games.
* Per-drawer & per-game config files now work with ADFs! (bug fix)
* Now opens an App Window for you to drop games on. Easier than dropping them on it's AmiDock icon!
* A new icon, thanks to David Braconnier.
* Improved installer & manual, thanks to user feedback.

You can download it here:
http://cshandley.co.uk/runinuae/RunInUAE_r2.lha

RunInUAE is designed to make it incredibly easy to run old Amiga games on Amiga OS4, and it comes with an easy installer. You can find more here.

Again, let's make this a "standard" part of Amiga OS

The thought never occured to me! And it really isn't required. But I have now added a Donate button to my email page, if you still want to

Let me know if it works or not!

Hay, why don't you release an AROS version? It shouldn't be so hard to port to it.

Probably not! You have *no* idea how much of a pain it has been to debug both RunInUAE (which has to deal with a lot of E-UAE quirks) and the installer (which has to deal with lots of AmigaDOS quirks) ! At the *moment* I dare not think of trying to port it to another OS which is almost but not quite the same (i.e. lots of subtle differences to have to take account of & going by past experience probably finding some AROS bugs that need fixing).

Plus the Installer makes heavy use of some AmigaDOS script magic which AROS does not support AFAIK.

Plus AROS already has it's own UAE solution. I don't really see the point in competing with something that is (supposedly) already fairly good & still being developed.

@all

I did just install wings on my hard drive under UAE and it works fine :)
What other games are there that can be installed on a hard drive from their adf's without VHDload?

Anything that uses an AmigaDOS disk format (i.e. readable under Workbench) is a good candidate. I think that PROBABLY includes these ones that I own:
Dune 2, PhoenixFighters, Odyssey, Marble Madness, Gunship2000, Frontier (if you like sloow-motion 3D!), BattleTech, Arcade Snooker, and MAYBE CD32 version of Cannon Fodder.

And PROBABLY these ones which I have not got to work yet, or are untested: Settlers, UFO, Pacific Islands, Sim City 2000, HistoryLine 1914-1918, Blitz Bombers, Bubble Bobble, SpeedBall 2 (CD32), Ugh, Worms DC, Pinball Mania, Super Skidmarks, XTR, Formula One Grand Prix, Wing Commander, Another World.

(A few games which used HD installers may be amoung those, sorry if that's the case). Also "cracked" games (as is often the case for ADFs) often stored the game on a plain AmigaDOS disk, so they are often worth a look.

In some cases you may need to assign df0: to the games's folder. If you have a script which says Assign df0: Dismount , followed by Assign df0: "" in the game's folder, then that will do it. For example, I had to do this for the multi-disk Settlers: Quote:
Assign df0: DISMOUNT
Assign df0: ""
Assign "The Settlers 2:" ""
Assign "The Settlers 3:" ""

I also highly recommend these PD/shareware games:
Air Taxi, Alien Fishfinger, Atoms, Beetle, Gravity Power, Sneech, The Shephard, Top Hat Willy.

Ah. Ok.

Anyway, AmiBridge is not a 'solution' but much more a 'basic temporary commodity' to run Amiga software in AROS, until proper integration has been completed. So, in a ideal world, it should be replaced by a better solution.

@ChrisH
I have tested the EasyUAE and I like it but I have found several bugs although it might to be due to Amiga OS 4.1 in my Sam, because I have problems to save the config or with some games, other important thing is that my Sam with 533 MHZ is very slow for the Amiga 500 games, I'll have that to buy one new Amiga with a fast CPU perhaps the new X1000 or a new Sam with a CPU of this speed, because with the current speed other emulators and video players also run slow.

And thank you for your work.

Thanks for this tool!

Unfortunately here (AOS4.1 on PegII) it does not work at all!

I installed it twice, the first time using my own EUAE configuration (with which OS3.1 boots fine and WHDLoad Games are running normally) and the 2. time using the .uaerc which comes with RunInUAE.

I also copied the files named kick40068.A4000 and kick34005.A500 into the source dir of EUAE renaming them to kick3.1.rom and kick1.3.rom. (The files kick34005.A500.RTB, kick40068.A4000.RTB were not copied.)

But whenever I drag and drop any 68k game onto RinInUAE icon in Amidock it boots EUAE only until the CLI prompt! (Standalone EUAE boots until WB 3.1!)!?

What's wrong?

EUAE *should* boot into Workbench under RunInUAE. Some other people have reported this problem. Unfortunately I do not know the cause (I found one possible cause & fixed it in RunInUAE r2).

Can you PLEASE confirm that the *same* Workbench3 files/folder do boot fine with "normal" EUAE, but fail when booting using RunInUAE? In that case it seems like a config problem, and I would like you to send me your: ".uaerc" file, ".uaerc_RunInUAE" file, and (if possible) the location of your Workbench3 files. That would be VERY helpful

My email address can be found on this page:

That's right! When starting EUAE directly it boots fine into WB3.x but not when starting using RunInUAE r2!

I'll send you my config files and the WB3-Drawerlocation.
