Hi there...

I'm looking for OS4 software to convert a bunch of jpg or iff images into an animation or movie. Preferable avi.

What is the best (fastest) one to use for this. I thought ffmpeg did this, but I cant get to load the images.

Thanks

Martin

@Metalheart

ffmpeg GUI has a preset for this I think.

Or use blender's sequence editor perhaps.

@Metalheart

I donnot know, what you are up to, but I used PPaint for that... because it generates Hollywood compatible anims (only 256 colors though...). All the rest (small utils from Aminet) I tried did not work like they should. On OS4.1 SAM at least (expect ffmpg of course).

@gerograph

Well, I have generated 600 24 bit images with Lightwave and I need to create a movie, preferable MP4 or AVI.

I'll take another look then.

It's a saved settings file and if you look in the "Hints and Tips"
section of the ffmpegGUI.guide file you'll find an example of how
to do it.

@Metalheart

Have a look at WaveTracer, a fairly new app...

http://www.virtualworlds.de/WT/index_e.html

I'd also like some animation SW, haven't got round the trying this yet.

Just use Daniel's great little MultiRen program to rename the files sequencially (it has support built in) then use ffmpegGUI to put them together in pretty much any format you desire. The process is very easy. MultiRen can be found HERE!

@ktadd

I recall Magic Lamp was a program that did what you need, tough I can't tell about the output format, for sure it was not AVI. But perhaps you could convert it once created.

EDIT: Magic Lamp was a 68K program, but maybe it works under Petunia

I use ffmpeg GUI to do still video (one picture) for my youtube music videos. You can do the same for a bunch of pictures.

@BillE & Metalheart

If you images are exactly in the sequence you need and require no further editing then use ffmpeg GUI as ktadd described above.

If not start blender and select the sequence editor preset (gadget just to then right of the menu that says 'model' by default)

you can then add you images in any order, cross fade, add effects, sinc with audio, blender with further rendered sequnces from blender scenes, whateber you need. You can render thr result to any format supported by ffmpeg, plus AVI-JPG and AVI-RAW and even another image sequnce if needbe.

Ok then...

I think I found out why ffmpeg didnt work. The images are ilbm 24 bit, ffmpeg doesnt do ilbm...
Renaming went snoothly using Multiren.

Now I need a program to batch process those ilbm images to jpg... Imagefx's autofx doesnt work anymore, never has on OS4... Perhaps old Adpro ?

Damn, wasn't Imagefx able to do animations aswel ?

And I'm trying Blender... My god !! What a bloody awfull UI does it have !! Is that normal for Linux programs ?

So, back to trying..

Thanks,

Martin

ps, anyone got those jpegtools to work ?
http://os4depot.net/index.php?function=showfile&file=graphics/edit/jpgtools.lha

I cant figure out how to use them to f.e. rotate an image... Even after reading the docs...

Thanks again

Try PNGTool from OS4Depot found HERE!
ffmpegGUI should handle png pictures and you won't get the loss as you would converting them to jpg. Note, I've never used PNGTool so I can't promise it will work but it sounds like it should.

Good luck!

@ktadd

Going to try pngtool later. thanks.

Still, anyone any succes with AutoFX and Jpegtools ??

I found that Adpro batchprocessor (Procontrol) I had laying around in a very very dusty closed. Altough Adpro still works on OS4.1, Procontrol doesn't anymore..

It seems that it explictly calls sys:rexxc/rxset to set ARexx clip variables. :-/ Worse it reports the failure with a requester for every failure rather, than maybe just the first then falling back to it's builtin fallback!

You could try making links to the new location, ie

MAKELINK FROM sys:rexxc/rxset to C:rxset

that might fix it.

As to blender UI, it's a big complex program, designed for speed of use (allegedly) rather tha speed of learning, it's worth learning, but I agree it;s a bit dauntuing at first site!

It'll handle your ilbm's though

@broadblues

Makelink didn't work, also creating a new rexxc dir with the Rexx commands in it did crash Imagefx.

However...... I copied all rexx commands from an old OS3.9 install to named directory, and... NOW AUTOFX WORKS !!!!!

Great, thanks for your tip !

Now the animation part left to tackle and I still cant get Jpegtools to work....

Thanks again

Martin

@Metalheart

Well, this is how I do Batchprocessing for Images:

www.geobiz.de/download.htm

If you scroll down, you will find iBatch. For OS4.1 and english language support use "iBatch4a_eng". You can also find a version on os4depot.

I made this Arexxscript with GUI (Awnpipe based) mainly for batchrenaming and batchimageprocessing (rotate + convert). Basically it is just a very comfortable front end for CLI based "ImageConverter" found on OS4depot. This is what you do:

copy all pictures to be converted into "Keeporig" drawer, choose input dir (source dir for images) and output dir then define a template (therefore define outputformat, -size etc....). Hit Start.
IBatch looks into "Keeporig" drawer to get just the names of the pics to be converted, pics the file with the matching name out of your source dir.. converts according to template ... saves to destdir.

DONE

REMEMBER: "ImageConverter" is still 68k code so have a bit of patient.

Makelink should have worked, but ofcourse you need to add the direcory first and depening on your filesystem perhaps add the SOFT keyword.....

How exactly did it crash?

@broadblues

The whole system froze..... I needed to reset my A1.

Also, what I mentioned, Copying named commands to a created Rexxc dir didnt work, but using old 3.9 versions of the commands DID work.

I'll try the makelink stuff again.

ps, creating a mpeg movie from mentioned iff images using Autofx right now
