Video editing using blender and other amiga tools....

It seems from various comments I read from people "requesting" software that a lot of users ahaven't yet twigged that blender doesn't just gives a powerful 3D modeling tool, but also a power video sequence editor.

So excuse me if I combine a plug for my latest music video, with a heads up of what you can do with blender and a few other tools under AmigaOS 4

Here the vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWdtsVEr4_g

The original video was taken on a DVD cam corder. I simply copied the VOB files from the resulting DVD onto my SAM-Flex.

I'm a bit short of time to write atut here and now, but I may do so a bit later, but in the mean time here a quick quote from the notes on yourube.com

Quote:

I used blender 2.48 running under AmigaOS4 on a SAM-Flex 440EP to edit the video, do some brightening and colour correction. The Audio was split from the original video with ffmpeg and cleaned up, EQ reverb etc in HD-Rec, the titles were created using ImageFX4.5 and then animated in the blender sequence editor.

The only 'down side' was the final "render" of the video at 720x576 took about 1.5 hours for a 4:30 min video on my SAM-Flex 766Mhz, but I found the comfort of working with my familar tools, in my familar environment, enough to offset that.

I don't know much about Blender so I was wondering if it was possible to distribute the "render" similar to the way distcc can distribute a GCC compile?

@ssolie

For rendering animations etc yes, there are a variety of scripts and tecniques to do that. Although blender doesn't have a cleint server setup for this built in. You have to render to images though then compile the images into a single video later, so the gain in the video editing context would be minimal.

@broadblues

great info Andy and your performance wasn't bad either
Blender is truly a powerful program..i just started doing some basic things on it for now but hopefully I will dig deeper when time permits...I really wish you had put out a bounty for all the work you did on this port

Most of the time I can find out the basic functions of programs unknow to me in a fairly short period of time. It might be because I'm getting old, or because of the sheer complexity of Blender, but this takes a lot of effort from me.

So, is there any information, tutorials or a manual somewhere to be found ?

I'd realy like to get the hang of it and enjoy it as much as I did enjoy Lightwave

Also the UI is realy, well... difficult to get the hang of.

But I'm realy impressed with it's capabilities as seen in videos and 'reviews' from people who did get the hang of it.

Thanks

Maritn

@Metalheart

Okay, quick startup.

Mouse:

lmb: manpulates objects, drags pionts, or activates gadgets menus etc.
rmb: selects objects or points, use shift key to multiselect (thats odd from an amiga perspective)
mmb: manipulates the view ie drags the view point arround, or scales in and out (with mouse wheeel) shift and ctrl keys modify the effect.

Keybord: about a billion shortucts but you pick them up as you go, ctrl-z for undo is very useful! Space bar gets you a menu....

Now using this info start blender, look at the top edge of the screen, in the middle (ish) you'll see the word "Help", click on this to get a drop down menu, with a number of option, select "Getting started" it;ll open the basic tutorial in the browser of your choice, OWB recomended but not absolutely necessary....

I was writing a tutorial based arround a "boing ball" but have run short of time, I hope to finish it soon.....

@broadblues

Realy ?

Thanks ! That 'll do for know.

I'd try to make a movie out of 500 lightwave generated images, but gave up 'cause of the file requester, when I finally had all files selected and pressed 'ok' (I believe the button was named..) and then the screen changed and i couldnt find if they where realy selected or not and where they went. And I got lost in the UI again.....

I wont give up just yet though !

Thanks, Blender realy looks promising.

Martin

btw, is altivec supprted ?

I really have to test Blender more. I like 3D but never learned howto. I like videorecording too.

Nice video. Cool live and soft music :) And we use the same audio app and ffmpeg too.

Wish AMAPI would have open sourced... I can't figure out blender for the life of me. Props to all the folks who know how to use blender, glad it's on the amiga family of OSs.

Works here with IB2.4. Have you read the readme and follow how to config it ?

You can try in shell getvideo to see if it works.

Getvideo "url" action downloaddir.

For example:
getvideo "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZrqIhVZXdA&feature=fvhl" save dh2:

@Kicko

Thanks.

The "problem" seemed to be this:
When I right mouse buttoned getVideo on this link, a requester comes up.

That requester has many possibilities, but the left most one 3GP appears in bold so I clicked on that one. Then is when I get http 502 (whose "message" is just as inexplicable as '502').

I went back and tried FLV. The download proceeded and eventually Andy's video appeared. After aimless wandering around the AmigaSound options I was able to hear Andy's admirable performance.
