I've downloaded the 2nd update of CygnusEd 5 and run it.

It asked for the original cd, I've inserted it, selected the drawer were the program is. It states that found CED, ED, MetaMac etc files and that it will update them to the latest versions, but after pressing proceed the installer says the installation is finished; but nothing is being changed.

Anyone succeed with the update?

@Phantom

Worked fine here. Updated from 5.30 to 5.60 successfully. Did you check if it has been updated? It's really quick.

@thomas

For AOS4:

The update work for all but not for cygnused itself.

the command line to patch the exe from the CD failed.

need a new archive with a corrected install script IMHO.

@Mrodfr

How did you unpack the archive? Did you check it for corruption?

I used LhA command line and it refused to unpack the first time, because the archive was corrupted during the download. I had to download it again.

Edit: certainly I tried this on OS4 on my A1, too. Otherwise I wouldn't have answered.

@thomas

Mine (from the cd) is 5.49 version. I did check if it has been updated, but nothing happened.

Well, mine has 5.3 as mentioned above. Perhaps the patch program does not work with an updated version.

You should go to http://www.amigafuture.de/viewforum.php?f=25 and tell the author about it.

The patch files were created against the three respective CED variants as found on the CD (version 5.3).

The installer script first checks which sizes the CED/Ed/MetaMac/RecoverCEDFiles files are which it finds in the directory you selected when you started the update. Then it figures out whether you are using the plain 68k the 020 or the PPC variant of CED and selects the patch file accordingly.

The patch file is always applied against the respective CED variant on the CD. It doesn't really matter which version of CED you have installed. You should be able to use the ced-patch program, as supplied with the update, to apply the patch manually if necessary.

Did anybody run SnoopDOS/Snoopy during the update, just to see what is happening to the CED file that's supposed to be patched?

Has anybody tried to perform the patch manually yet?

I am aware that the patch runs against the CD, otherwise I wouldn't expect to be able to apply update2 without installing update1 first.

But I understood this:

as if he has a CD with 5.49 on it. Don't know if such exists.

I supposed that the patch does not work with an updated CD.

Hm... as far as I know the CDs sold always included the 5.3 release, and no changes were made to the master since then.

This 5.49 should not be on the CD.

@thomas

If the patch doesn't work with an updated CD, how I can do the update manually then?

@olsen

You're right.

5.49 is the Update 1 for Ced. You can download it via the APC-TCP site.

So as far as I can understand, upgrading from Update 1 to Update 2 doesn't work.

I tested the update script before I released it, and it worked with all six variants of the CED binary available at the time (5.3 68k/020/PPC and 5.49 68k/020/PPC).

The binary patch, however, only works with the 5.3 release binaries that should be on the CD. The patch cannot be applied to the 5.49 CED binaries.

EDIT: I checked back, and it appears that the most recent CDs sold do contain the binaries found in Update #1. Which means that the Update #2 script cannot be used to update the binaries found on the CDs. I'll have to make another update package over the weekend. Sorry

New CygnusEd Update 2 Archiv (8.10.2010)

This updated version of Update #2 can now directly update versions 5.3 and 5.49 of CygnusEd in place.

@AndreasM, Olaf

Thanks.

Note that the new "Ed" has still the old version number and date.
