Hello,

For the new AOS4 users:

The following files allow to use an HD with AOS4 and with another OS system (actually only Debian Linux AFAIR).

This file must be installed on the HD with the SYS:System/mediatoolbox program.

New user use per default SLB_V2.

History:

At first AOS4.1 version:

- SLB_V2 1.19 - AOS4 - 26-11-08
Manage multiboot with Linux and filesystems (SF-FFS-JXSF maybe ?)

and after

- Partherope 0.91 - Acube - 24-10-08
Manage multiboot with Linux and filesystems (FFS0, SFS0, Ext2 (Ext3 is not supported)).

And during this time the Partherope AROS version (little differents)

and now

- Ub2lb (Partherope 0.93 when using version name) - 09-04-11 - Acube -
Manage multiboot with Linux and filesystems (FFS0, SFS0, Ext2 (Ext3 is not supported)).

Inside the Ub2lb archive, we found:

authors: Giuseppe Coviello and Michal Schulz

- Do we have now an unified Partherope (or Ub2lb) for AOS4 and AROS from Acube ?

- Why changing the name of the file (version name is allways partherope) ?

Please add comments if I have forgotten some on this subjects, for example the differents filesystem managed and if someone arrive to boot AOS4-dEBIAN-aros on a same machine, for example.

This is to have the most informations possible about this subjet in one place.

NOTE: I'm using Ub2lb with AOS4+SAM440EP fine (not tested with linux until now.

bye

@Mrodfr

I don't know why this was needed for Sam. The A1 SLB was fine. Okay the "a1" in a1boot.conf made no sense but it worked so why make another?

If they updated it to be more like x86 GRUB with a menu.lst then fine which looks like what they have done. But Parthenope could only read DOS3 FFS IIRC so user needed another partition to boot OS4. Or FFS7 at least. Why was this so?

This just looks like a mess. Hopefully fixed now. I hope the latest official SLB reads DOS7, SFS and Ext2/3. Ext4 wlil be needed next.

I don't understand as it's like Hyperion didn't port it (SLB) because they didn't want OS4 booting on a Sam!

Well along with Linux anyway.

At the time the AROS port to Sam was started by Michal there was no other SLB.

and SLB is included in OS4 so industrial customers can't use it.

@mrodfr

Parthenope (aka ub2lb) can read partitions formated in FFS0, SFS0, Ext2 (Ext3 is not supported).

THat's okay for AROS but this was needed for Linux. Users had to install this SLB and if they used DOS7 for WB they were stuffed!

@elwood

What I was wondering is why an SLB wasn't made for Sam by Hyperion that could dual boot Linux and OS4 without problems at thw start? The A1 had it so it didn't make sense.

Also why doesn't Parthenope support DOS7 anyway? The include filesa have been around for ages so I see no excuse!

@Cara

Hello,

I have installed previously Debian with version 0.91 and no problems.

0.93 update just show additionnal mesages you mentionned, but Debian allways here and running fine.

I think 0.93 scan others parts of the HD (Amiga parts) and report all the amiga parts as:

" Failed to Mount ex2 Filesystem "

- Do you have really no Debian showed on the partherope 0.93 ?
- Do you have installed your Debian with 0.91 version (before 0.93 release) ?

bye

@Mrodfr

Had Denian with 0.91 installed previous to 0.93 with no problem.

No access after installing 0.93 but the fault I mentioned.

Do you have a working dual boot and 0.93 ?

@Cara

Yes, I have really tested Debian with partherope 0.93 and debian is listed on partherope and could be launched fine.

On partherope, first entry is AOS4, second one is debian.

You have no choice than using again the 0.91 version now (No problem to fall back to 0.91).
