| Sorry to spill my guts.
I'm getting sick of moving the earth and moon to get things working on AmigaOS. Realy, I mean I have to spend hours hunting for those odd missing files and or third party programs trying to install them and get them working just to get the app I wanted to work in the first place running.
I cant get Jack to work properly, OWBMUI crashes and cant get Simplemail to use it , Clipdown ceases to work every time youtube gets changed/updated, DVplayer doesnt work well, crashes when opening a DVD. And on top of that every other program askes for another million libs or whatever I do not have and so I go hunting for them again...... And I have to bother you all again with my troubles.
Oh, and when are we done running programs from CLI or scripts, when they should all have GUI's AND proper icons ?
Realy this situation sucks.
I hate Windows, but every program I try to install just works.
sigh..... I'm going to reinstall the whole #### this weekend. OS4.1, update 1,2, and 3 and then carefully copying other stuff I need like extra libs and preferences and so on. Then trying to install everyting I seem to have issues with from scratch. Maybe that'll help...
Oh and 'system uptime' ??? I cant imagine running my system longer then a day without having to reboot a few times. It's fine when doing nothing or editing text, but when using Imagefx, OWB and filer with big previeuw will surely make the system unuseable shortly.... Even when GR kills a program it is no guarantee that the rest will keep running.
I hate this.... To much trouble trying to run 'fun' apps on a 'fun' OS
Going to get drunk now.... Oh wait.... I don't drink ! Damn, I cant get a break......
Thanks for hearing me out.
Martin

Has it got that bad? The last time I used an Amiga was '94 and when I left most everything I used had a nice GUI and any libs issues were simple to solve if they came up at all. I suppose the Amigas fall from the mainstream kind of makes these sorts of problems more likely.
Hopefully someone will be able sort it out for you. _________________ Sam |

Yeah, he wouldn't be so ####ed off if OS4 carried a free-time price. The amount of money Hyperion charges for such a buggy OS is criminal. |

Hope you are joking....
I have NO issues with Hyperion or the price of OS4 !!! If I wanted everything for free, I'd be using Linux. _________________ Theres a time to live and a time to die When its time to meet the maker Theres a time to live but isnt it strange That as soon as you're born you're dying |

I seriously think you should get the help of someone knowing better than you AmigaOS 4.1.
My AmigaOne is my daily computer and everything is working as I expect it to.
I've never encountered any of the problems you have.
AmigaOS 4.1 has to be used as main OS if you want to knowhow to use it. If it is only turned on to test a program and then it is shut down, I don't really see the point. _________________ PowerMac G5 2,7Ghz - 2GB - Radeon 9650 - MorphOS 3.14 AmigaONE X1000, 2GB, Sapphire Radeon HD 7700 FPGA Replay + DB 68060 at 85Mhz |

Na, it's the same with all Amiga-like systems, be it OS3.x, 4.x or MorphOS2.x. Some stuff is easier with MorphOS due to the seperated sys and user structure, but it can be the same hunting for libs and stuff and non-working or outdated or whatever application software as well. I'm able to shoot down my MorphOS in some seconds if I want to only by using this or that app (mostly killing Ambient...), no problem. Since Update 1 of OS4.1 both systems are (at least here with my Pegasos II) are more or less on par... Last edited by cha05e90 on 02-Sep-2011 at 08:39 PM.

Not at all. Read again what K-L said. It's just that if you use AmigaOS once a year you can't know it enough to use it without headaches. Like any other software. _________________ Philippe 'Elwood' Ferrucci Sam460 1.10 Ghz AmigaOS 4 betatester Amiga Translator Organisation |

Sometimes, with all OS-es about, it just is needed to do a clean, fresh from scratch re-install. That's computing. _________________ Back home... |

Yes that's exactly what I meant....
Seriously not. I was just saying that if you want to get used to AmigaOS 4.1, you have to use it.
My girlfriend knows better than me how to use Mac OS X. Of course she knows, I don't use it often and only for minor tasks.
Anyway, I don't really see how to attract users if for most of Amigans, AmigaOS 4 is only for casual users (a new program or a new update and I turn on my AmigaOne/Sam440/Peg II/... to test it and then I can switch it off until the next new program or the new update).
This is why I advise Metalheart to get in touch with someone using on a regular basis AmigaOS 4.1 and being able to help him to configure his system since it is obviously ver badly configured.
I'll end saying that fortunately there are still people using on a daily basis their system. If this was not the case, there would be nothing for casual users liking AmigaOS to test. _________________ PowerMac G5 2,7Ghz - 2GB - Radeon 9650 - MorphOS 3.14 AmigaONE X1000, 2GB, Sapphire Radeon HD 7700 FPGA Replay + DB 68060 at 85Mhz |

You see?
AmigaOS has not enough users/developers/money to be a rock solid OS. There are just two things you can do if you can't give 1 million dollar to the project: - use it - go away

I did a clean install, Update 1, 2 and 3 and now AmigaOS is perfectly stable
Of course an ISO would have been better however every operating system needs a minimum of maintenance to be completely enjoyable, and if you install and set it (and mantain) properly all goes well, so don't give up ...
And of course, all such idiot trolls around must be kicked out

Of course everyone's welcome - but *I* must admit that none of the AmigaWorld relevant OS' is really "easy" in that nowadays sense. From my own experience it's more "hard work" to use AmigaOS3.9 or 4.1 or MorphOS2.7 or having a decent stable setup. Nothing wrong with that - but for casual users this can be no-fun sometimes..._________________ X1000|II/G4|440ep|2000/060|2000/040|1000 |

I don't agree at all. At this point in time we're back to where we had .mcc problems, or .library problems, but now it's missing .so's. So we have three different types of libraries now, and not many of them have good (or any) install scripts. Just like it was with all these MUI classes at one point in time.
Though people have always made their own decisions on how to install and customise AmigaOS, and AmigaOS 4.x just doesn't play as nice as older versions did, in that regard. IMO, I might add.
EDIT: Removed a point there, too many points make you dizzy! Last edited by zerohero on 02-Sep-2011 at 08:51 PM.
