For people who don't read Hyperion's official AmigaOS4 forum, I thought that I better report my findings here:

Since Update 3, I have been finding that USB keyboard & mouse would frequently stop working, especially when using certain software (like MUI-OWB). Eventually I have tracked this down to my use of ACube's Sam440ep_setup program (in my WbStartup).

As this program only provides a tiny speed boost, you should be able to happly stop using this 3rd-party program!


So I can now say that Update 3 is ROCK SOLID for me and I'd like to thank the whole OS4 team for it. AmigaOS4 is much nicer to use, now that I have speedy USB2.0 & corruption-free use of memory sticks.

I have to say that despite some new issue I have with USB, writing is not one of them. It works perfectly fine without hitches. Only reading causes some disk driver hickups, but no lockups.

I wrote 16GB more or less in one go and it all went fine with an average speed of 6MB/s, which I find perfectly acceptable on an old A1.

I have been seeing the same problem with my sam440ep mini-itx board since update 3 as well. Its been happening that frequently I had to move my keyboard to one of the front USB ports so I can unplug it plug it back in easily.

I will try removing the sam440ep_setup program from my startup and see if that helps fix the problem as its been getting quite annoying.

I also have no problems with USB, update 3, and Sam440ep_setup.

I have a 667MHz Sam440ep mini. Not the flex model.

I have both the Mini-ITX @ 667mhz and the Flex @ 733mhz here, but I have been exclusively using the Mini-ITX box lately. That's the one I've had problems with losing my wireless USB mouse from time to time with Update 3. Got busy here and haven't tested your fix yet. Tomorrow....

I have no problems when using the Sam440ep_setup tool and OWB-MUI with my mouse or keyboard, even when my system was on over night. Keyboard, Mouse is still working and Sam440ep_setup tool is always started when my Workbench appears.

Finally found time to mess with my Samiga. After a couple of days of running with the setup utility disabled on my Sam440ep Mini-ITX machine, I have not experienced any more cases of losing my mouse. It was happening constantly before, mainly as I was using MUIOWB.

My flex Sam has been largely unused but I will get back to it eventually. I'm enjoying carrying my little ITX Sam around from place to place, so it's seeing more action these days. That's probably why I have not yet carried through with my threat to buy a Sam460!

I have the same setup, however am using a Radeon 9250 and get a freeze as soon as workbench comes up.

Wonder if my GFX card is to blame?

Have you tried removing the card, installing the update, and then reinserting it?
I also have a 440 mini-itx with almost the same setup as you and Chris (except for the gfx card) but i haven't experienced problems like yours or his, not even the usb lockups....
