If you like this software, I suggest buying the latest version and supporting it's further development.

From looking at his website, it appears that version 5.3 is the latest release and it is available for OS4.x, MorphOS2.7, AROS, Windows and MacOSX (both Intel and PPC versions).

If you want developers to continue supporting Amiga-Like OSes, then we should support the developers by buying their work.

Thanks Davey for releasing version 4 free on OS4Depot and please keep supporting all Amiga flavors with your new work.

Edit: My mistake, I misread the AE4 website and now see that versions past 4 are only available on Windows & MacOSX.

@amigadave

version 4 was the last version that supported AmigaOS en the likes from what I can see. Yet another developer that throws in the towel. So to the people who like this post ... there is nothing to celebrate I think.

starting with version five the GUI is based on wxwidgets which isn't available on AmigaOS or any of the alternatives, unfortunately. i don't know if davey will continue to develop on the amiga platform -- i certainly hope he will -- but i'm very grateful that for whatever reason he's decided to release the software and accompanying source, he's releasing it freely.

@thread

for folks who don't know what we're on about, audio evolution is a superb multi-track audio editing suite. try it: if you end up keeping it, please make certain to at least send a note of thanks.

wxwidgets is one thing. AHI is way outdated for anything over v.4 of Audio Evolution. That said AE v.4 might be all you need. It is easy to use and understand. The sound quality is also good. I had lots of fun with it.
It is for sure sad that Davy is not active anymore. If is also kind of strange that even if AHI always been free open source, noone has updated it to todays standards.

Sorry for my mistake regarding the versions that are available for OS4, MorphOS & AROS.

I hope that AHI can be updated, or replaced and that Davey continues to update this fine program beyond version 4 for all of the Amiga inspired platforms. We need to keep all the talented programmers we have, interested in continuing work on Amiga inspired systems.

It is surprising that AHI has not been worked on in a long time.

I will be sending Davey a donation when I download and install AE4 on my X1000 and my MorphOS computers. I don't think he received nearly as many purchases of his OS4, MorphOS, and AROS ports of AE4 as he expected, when he agreed to do those ports. I meant to buy AE4 sooner, but have been distracted with other things. I know one donation won't make any difference toward Davey deciding to do any further work on AE4 for any of the Amiga inspired systems, but it can't hurt.

@amigadave

i bought it at release , its an awesome product, sadly it doesn't support VST.

The Source will be released shortly so development can be continued if there are anyone interested in that.

AHI doesn't need an update, we need a whole new API, aHi is outdated and crap, DaveAE worked on a new one many moons ago (when he worked on AE4 OS4 etc) but it never came into frution.

as to people who don't understand why developers leave Amiga, have a look at the forums here and others, too much trolling, too many lawsuits and a general negativity ah and no one buys the software (as in next to no market)

AHI is far from perfect but considering current audience it is more than enough...

This is nothing but final testament there won't be any further market possibilities for AE4 anymore. It has reached its saturation point on all platforms. But in any case if someone downloads AE4 and is using it why not donate small or large amount of money for his work. (Or buy AROS/MorphOS port, since they are still for sale, I think... but probably not for long.)

I've never tried AudioEvolution so I D/L and installed it to take a look. I launched it on it's own screen and tried to save the prefs so I wouldn't need to pick a screenmode every time I start it. Unfortunately I get a Grim Reaper when I try to save the preferences. Snoopy didn't show me much; other than it opened a new prefs file. Where does AudioEvolution save it's prefs file (ENVARC: home directory etc.)? Maybe it's a problem with my system.

@Xenic

PROGDIR:AudioEvolution.prefs by the looks of my setup

I've never had a issue saving AE4 prefs and I have the same version installed as this Free release appears to be.

Having said that the version number is the same but te file size is different, so clearly not exactly the same.

@broadblues

The licensing has been altered and perhaps some more experiments have been done last years, so I'm not surprised that the file size is different.

Well, soon you'll be able to fix the bugs once the source code is released. Expect that to happen in a month or so, I'll need to clean some stuff up and make sure everything is in there including the source code of the plugins.

Oh, and I haven't been using source control with automatic versioning until AE5, that's the main reason for the versioning not being updated! :-/

@DaveAE
Thanks for the great program. If I don't figure out my problem before the sources are released, I'm pretty sure I can track it down with a little debug output when source is available.

The Snoopy output makes it look like the prefs go in PROGDIR: but I wanted to be sure. I'll play around with it this afternoon to see if I can figure out my problem. If not, I'm sure having the sources will help.
