@AmigaBlitter

Can you please explain in a few words, what this is about and what this means?

It seems to be a lot of work, but beeing a simple "User" and not a "Developer" I do not really understand what this is about.

Thank you

@Birbo

Basically, the JIT is the bit that makes WinUAE much faster than E-UAE.
Once the JIT is working (Just In Time compiler), we can look forward to full speed Classic Amiga emulation on just about everything from the bottom end SAM upward probably, maybe even on classic machines running OS 4.

@Birbo

Took me a while to catch on as well, but then I read the headline of the blog.

The guy who did the JIT for OS4 is doing it again, but this time for UAE. Which essentially means blazingly fast UAE for OS4 (and probably other platforms like Linux-PPC and MOS, but I dunno). This is good news.

Now, if only more stuff would work with JIT

@HyperionMP

This is another great example of a BLOG. Not what you at Hyperion call a BLOG - I really like to read how things are going on... like here

To Hyperion: If possible, expand your blog to something similar like the one from Almos -> it's a big opportunity for you...

@Almos:

Thank you very much for writing down some lines from time to time in your blog. I really appreciate that.

It's always nice to see the history too and to read some old posts in your blog - just to see how many work you already put in this project.

@AmigaBlitter

Can you please change your title to E-UAE?

It confuses people with the other uae's.

Grtz, Dirk.

All versions of "UAE" are somewhat confusingly named...

I believe the original name or UAE was "Unix Amiga Emulator" (sometimes known back then as Unusable Amiga Emulator)...

After that their seems to be a bit of a debate as to whether it is now known as either "Universal Amiga Emulator" or " Ubiquitous Amiga Emulator"

I suppose it would have to be known though as "Ubiquitous" as it certainly can't be classed as "Universal" as that would imply that it runs on everything...

WinUAE runs natively on Windows Machines so therefore that rules out "Universal" being used...

MaxUAE runs on Macs so that rules out "Universal" being used...

E-UAE seems to be for OS4, MoprhOS an AROS so again that rules out "Universal" as being the correct terminology...

UAE according to the "official" site is for and I quote "Unixish systems" !!!

Only thing I can find clear about whatever "UAE" is actually meant to stand for is that...

A) it certainly can't be called "universal"

and

B) your better off using a real Amiga than an emulator that people get "confused" over the very name of...

@Franko

They're all derivatives of UAE. There are also a few others such as UAE4ALL, P-UAE and FS-UAE.

E-UAE is also available for other platforms such PPC MacOS, PS3, Amiga68k and Linux.

There were also 68k builds of UAE in the 90's.

@Rob

Still confusing to me... too many different initials before the "U" bit... it's like someones randomly once in a while just bunged some new letters at the beginning just for the sake of it...

I'll stick with the real thing... (much less confusing)...

That'd be just as confusing. E-UAE has had jit cpu emulation since very 1st release, just not for non x86 based systems. :)

@Franko

Apparently the "U" originally stood for "unusable", but as it improved this no longer fit. Ever since the "U" hasnt been part of a definitive acronym. Coincidently the "E" in e-uae has never been part of any definitive acronym either, and was only titled as such when enough users started calling it that. Originally it was just an update to what was an outdated (vs. Winuae) version of uae, and the archives were simply titled "uae-date" ("date" being a actual date, not the word).
Oh, and it also exists for BeOS, Windows, and Mac, along with a few others so it is quite universal.

@AmigaBlitter

Great news. Just wondering if the Mac version has it's own bounty or if we're paying for it with the Amiga bounty. With Apple's billions that doesn't seem right.
