@retro

The launch date on that site gets moved back every other month for years ("Project Metropolis" was announced two years ago)...

It's a DiscreetFX project - which means it will never happen, or it will happen in the most amateurish way imaginable. The only thing you can take for granted is that it's going to generate between 30 or 40 press releases where BillP is acting like a 13 year old playing CEO ("we", "our shipping department", "DiscreetFX Labs").

If you can find a developer who's not falling from his chair laughing when "Metropolis" is mentioned, feel free to let me know. And no, other wannabe CEOs don't count, so "phoenixkonsole" is not a valid counter argument.

@cgutjahr

You need to stop bitching about os4 and discreetfx and move on. You sound like a bitter, broken record from ann.lu, except you where a cheerleader back then. I think discreetfx is one of the leading software dev companies for amiga in 2013.

Given the market, I agree.

First I have heard of this. I find myself singularly unimpressed.
Charging dedicated hobby coders to put their creations on what looks like a 1st graders home page does not look like a good deal.

As for DiscreetFX being a lead software dev for AmigaOS? That may be true, but I struggle to think of a piece of their software that I use. Maybe I am just unaware of their creations though.

You might want to look up "irony" in a dictionary

DiscreetFX never released any software, just a few effects collections for VideoToaster. And they're selling digital copies of (very old) Aladdin 4D since they acquired the rights to it.

They even seem to be poking at fun of themselves in their adverts placed in Amiga Future. Remember the Oil Change film that was going to fund their purchase of Amiga Inc. Current advert says "Coming in 2069!"

Why ???

There's tons of free stuff on Aminet (no need for anyone to make a buck out of it)...

Aminet is constantly updated each and every week with new free or shareware software and it has the biggest choice anywhere on the net...

So why the need for someone to actually charge software writers/ developers to distribute their stuff when Aminet does it for free ???

Sometimes think some people can't do anything for themselves anymore without someone writing an "App" for them and charging a "small" amount for the "privilege" ...

So did they mean the 28th Of February 2013 in some other alternate reality or did they mean the 28th Of February 2013 in the time in which most of us are living in...

@cheesegrate

Ahem. They have nothing - absolutly nothing - to do with the product Photogenics. All they did/do is providing the standard link from Digitialriver, which is/was - by the the - the usual way to purchase Photogenics. I bought Photogenics exactly through this Digitalriver presentation three years ago. So it's nothing more than a copy and paste job. And it's a bad one, because the link to Digitalriver's Photogenics purchasing site is dead since months. With this approach they could simulate a "rich consumer related presentation of products" even with MorphOS and AmigaOS itself by linking their site to the MorphOS-Team and Hyperion websites. Big deal.

@cha05e90

Also, whats with the links to Viva Amiga movie? Are they part of that?
Not to mention the lame Aladeen Dictator themed page.

Never spent much time on the discreetfx site before. For a commercial website it is very weak.

@cheesegrate

Considering the page says "Buy Now link goes to an external site not part of DiscreetFX" and clicking "Buy Now" doesn't go to any existing site, I would say neither of us know of ANY place to buy Photogenics.

Doesn't matter how good it is, you can't buy it through DiscreetFX.

I heard a rumour that you might get it as an "extra freebie" when buying it for some other platform. Better ask the author first though!
