| I have OWB verson 3.32 installed on my uA1c running OS 4.1 update 6. Recently my bank modified its online banking stuff. Since then I have been unable to successfully log into it. In the logon process I am getting a message (from my bank I think) that says: Cookies are invalid or disabled
So, I am thinking that somehow I need to enable my cookies. I have uncommented the: COOKIEDB=PROGDIR:cookieCollection.db line in the icon. Is there anything else I need to do? Is there any easy way to tell whether cookies are enabled or disabled? Also, other that the readme file (which doesn't seem to cover many details), is there some documentation somewhere which might explain this sort of stuff?
Thanks.

Hi That's it, the next time you close your browser it'll create a cookie file and update it each session.
If you don't like the idea of storing all those tracking cookies that websites like to dump on you then try this, close your browser and delete the cookie file, re-open it and visit a benign site such as: nodpi.org to collect its cookie, close the browser to create the file. now highlight the file then right click on information, untick the "write" box and save, you now have a cookie file that cannot grow.
I have got into the habit of closing then re-opening OWB before visiting any "money" related site, just to be sure It's not dragging anything unwanted with it.

Thanks for the info, but that does not seem to have fixed my problem. I followed you instructions for deleting the cookie file, visiting the benign site, and closing OWB. I then restarted OWB and tried visiting my bank only to get the original message about "Cookies are invalid or disabled" again. Any other thoughts? Is OWB perhaps just not compatible with my bank's new software?
Thanks.

Hi, assuming you now have a "cookie.db" file in PROGDIR, I wonder if it's something to do with the COOKIENAME and COOKIEDOMAIN tooltypes. According to the changelog:
Changelog 3.32 (25.4.2011) Updated libcurl to 7.21.4 with threaded resolver. FAST_MOBILE_SCROLLING can be enabled by setting the tooltype FASTSCROLL. Added NETRC tooltype for using a libcurl .netrc file for HTTP authentication instead of requesters. Updated curl-ca-bundle.crt. Added COOKIENAME and COOKIEDOMAIN tooltypes. The example "COOKIENAME=~(__(utm([avxz]|xx)|gads|qca))" tooltype disables storing Google Analytics cookies (__utma, __utmv and __utmz), Google Website Optimizer (__utmx and __utmxx), DoubleClick (__gads) and Quantserve (__qca) cookies. Now forwards right mouse button clicks to the page even if the CONTEXTMENURMB tooltype is enabled. Disabled displaying the page source for now since it's currently crashing sometimes.
Perhaps your bank is insisting you accept the trackers, do you have brackets around those tooltypes? other than that, perhaps try MUIOWB Sorry I can't help more, what's the name of your bank? I use ver. 3.31 here without problems, not that that means much as it's a different bank

Perhaps. But with one of my banks, I have to switch back and forth from experimental cookies to get on. And another bank account is about to upgrade their security, and they say I should have javascript, flash, and something else I've never even heard of before. |

Hi It's a pain isn't it, have you tried spoofing as another system? say an Ipad, to see if they have a mobile version of the site.

I checked the icon's info, and there were no brackets around the FASTSCROLL tooltype, there were brackets around the NETRC tooltype (but removing them did not seem to do anything new), but the COOKIENAME and COOKIEDOMAIN tooltypes were absent. Do I need to add those to enable something? Your comments and the changelog seem to imply that these are used to disable specific types of cookies so I'm thinking I don't need them anyway.
The name of my bank is the Texas Trust Credit Union: http://www.texastrustcu.org
Is there any more documentation on OWB other than what is in the readme file/change log?
Thanks.

I'm not aware of a central resource of hints and tips about OWB, just the stuff that emerges in threads like these. It's possible to spoof another user agent for OWB by entering into a shell: setenv OWB_USER_AGENT "new user agent in here", mine is this: "Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_7) AppleWebKit/534.48.3 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Safari/534.48.3"
This is a useful site http://useragentstring.com/ for checking its current state, and there are other examples of strings to choose from. (including IBrowse3) If you still can't get it to work and other browsers such as MUIOWB and Timberwolf are no better, then it comes down to using another machine with a mainstream OS instead of our niche/hobbyist one (in spite of its recent improvements). I also have a second hand netbook with XP on it to: play with AROS, update satnav maps and deal with those proprietary files that are sent to me by people who think "everyone uses Windows". Minor rant over, regards Draby |
